My Life in Palette: Refuse to Sink #KeepSafePhilippines

in Sketchbook2 years ago (edited)

Hello, fellow hivers! How are your Sundays?! I hope the weather is fine and calm from your end my friends.

Today, we are currently being hit by another powerful tropical cyclone, the Super Typhoon Karding with an international name Noru, particularly in most areas of Luzon.

Earlier, I could see from our window that the rain was falling heavily and the trees were being swayed by strong winds. With my eyes wondering in the stormy weather outside, my heart goes out to all those who are greatly affected by this another devastation that our country is facing.

But let me tell you, two of great traits and values that we Filipinos poses are:

1. Being resilient in this hardest of times.

Our incredible capability in being flexible and being able to easily adapt with the situation, no matter how bad it is. Despite it all, we still manage to draw smiles on our faces. We know how to play with the strongest waves, and we make sure that no matter how badly we are shaken, we make sure our ships will refuse to sink.

2. Keeping the "bayanihan" spirit alive.

It is a community spirit in giving each other a helping hand. We make sure that no one will be left behind. Together, we will sail through this destructive weather and together, we will withstand the storm.

And that's what inspires me to create this painting. I got this image inspired by a great Filipino artist, sir JM Lisondra.

This painting, as you can see is a lone ship sailing on a stormy sea. But the enormous waves did not let it succumb to sinking. Instead, it goes with the flow to where the waves were taking it and continued sailing. And that's what we are because our faith is stronger than our fears.

Now, let me share with you a little glimpse of how this piece of art was done.

The progress...

First, mixing the colors and putting up with the messy background to make sure it will look like a stormy night in the sea. I focused on dry brushing.

Next, I drew the layout of a ship, the ancient one which makes it more dramatic. The white sail/sailcloth which looks like being blown away by the winds has added the stormy vibes.

And then, I added highlights to the ship. I added some white and yellow colors to some of the ship's corner to make it looks realistic.

Lastly, I added highlights to the seawater to emphasize that they are big waves crashing through the sailing ship.

The finished art... 🎨

My heart was in bliss as I put my signature in the lower-right corner of this painting. I could see in this painting the resiliency of the Filipinos in facing strong calamities like typhoons which are sad to say, seems unavoidable every year as we are located near the Pacific Ocean, and climate change has made it gets even worse every year.

Looking back, on September 26, 2009, almost exactly 13 years ago, a typhoon Ondoy struck Southwest Luzon (including the metropolitan area) which caused massive floods and destroyed not just properties but lives as well. Yeah, it may have shaken us for a while, but it did not take away our faith to keep on going, to keep on sailing in the wide ocean of life.

Keep safe everyone. And keep the faith!

👍😉😊🤙 yes, great job.. it DOES really look like it's a picture of a storm..

Awesome talent. :)

Thank you so much @chinito ☺️

Have a good day!

😊😉🤙

I love your painting and the concept behind it !!! May our ship never sink !!!

Yeah, a ship in a harbor is safe, but it's not where ships are made to stay. There may be a lot of strong storms we get to encounter along the way, but let our prayer be stronger. Let's keep on sailing.
