Inktober 2021, Day 22: Open

Open - Ink drawing, 21x16 cm, 2021

The prompt of day 22 was - open. My mind automatically went to opening the letter. I did not want to simply draw the envelope I wanted it to be part of the standard-sized paper I use for all of my Inktober drawings - 21x16 cm. Why not stick a full envelope on the paper? Nope, no! I like to complicate things for myself as the process reveals. I am a weirdo. I know. Confirmed.

I wanted to create an envelope pocket on the paper. I first decided on the dimensions of the envelope and found the placement of it. I then proceeded with cutting out the pieces for the pocket that are the front of the envelope and the top bit that closes it. I stained all the pieces with the Diamine fountain pen inks - Sherwood Green and Arabian Nights and glued them in place using regular paper glue. After that, I decorated the envelope with my dot patterns using the Pigma Micron fine liner 03 and white Sakura Gelly Roll liner 08.

Finally, it was only logical and suited to put the tiniest autumn leaves in the envelope. It was a struggle to cut them out of the Hahnemühle Mixed Media paper 310 g/m² due to its thickness. I used the nail cutting scissors for that since the paper cutting knife wasn’t cutting it xD The stems were a nightmare! But hey, anything for the cute! I used four different inks for the leaves - Diamine fountain pen inks Autumn Oak, Sherwood Green, and Diamine drawing inks Ruby and Canary Yellow. I used the same dotting patterns on the leaves as well.

I lost count on how many times I failed to cut out the maple leaf. It almost started to feel like the umbrella scene in the Squid Game!

I went outside today for the first time in days! The wind nearly blew the soul out of me, but it was nice to look around and not a few centimeters from the paper or computer screen. I needed that.

Song of the day: Firewind - Maniac

Not only the concept is great but also well executed. It looks wonderful for the eyes.

Thank you so much @theia7! I am happy that you enjoyed it :)

Beautiful! It was worth the effort!

Thank you! The paper this thick is really not suitable for tiny cut out leaves, but somehow I managed to get at least a few good ones. Paper knife really just scratched it and wasn't working. I was surprised xD

I think the the extra work paid off. That's really cool. Those leaves are really impressive. I thought that they were real ones from outside at first.

Yay, that is the bit I spent the most time on. I did not expect to run in the issues with the paper, but I guess 310 g is something to consider haha. The painting them part was a lot of fun even though they are so tiny :)
