Are you guys familiar with Ponyo? It's a really fun and exciting animated film from Studio Ghibli. I love watching their animations because the world they create are really amazing. Since I'm practicing how to paint landscapes, I decided to paint some of the places from Ghibli. And to start with, I drew Sousuke's house on a cliff from the movie Ponyo. :)
I showed this artwork to my mama and let her guess from which anime it was and she answered correctly! I'm so happy because she liked it. I also sent a picture of this to my bestie and she guessed right as well. She also praised my painting, so I'm truly delighted. My daily practice has been paying off. <3
Now, let me show you the process... and as usual, let's start from the preparation of materials. :) In this artwork, I used my A5 watercolor pad, watercolor tubes, brushes, etc.
Using this brush, I colored the entire paper with shades of blue and green... this will serve as the base color for the sky, sea and the cliff. :)
Using some darker shades of green, I;m slowly emphasizing the details of the painting. I'm still not sure how to do it properly, but let's do it my style... trial and error. hahah
I also added some details in preparation for the road... and as you can see on the other side, I separated the sky and the sea using some bright colors. This would be the light from the sun somewhere. haha
I colored the road with gray and added various shades of green and some black parts for emphasis. I actually don't know what I was doing this time... but let's just continue and add more details to the painting. :)
I added some pinkish clouds in the sky because it looked so bare at first... and I wanted to play with it. I also added the house and a lamp post somewhere by the road. As you might have also noticed, I added a ship and some waves. Yaaay! It doesn't look that empty anymore! ^^
For the final touch, I initially used some artline pens, but maybe the paint was still wet, so it won't work. That's why I decided to use black watercolor instead as well as my smallest brush... and it worked much better than the pens. :)
This is basically the finished painting... and all that's left is to take out the tapes and add my username and signature. ^^
I really like how vibrant the colors are. I'm also very glad to be able to paint this. I really enjoyed it. I hope you did, too!
