Regreso a Goa
Una densa capa de nubes cubría el continente sur occidental, donde se encontraba la sede del gobierno Goei, que se sepa, mucho tiempo había pasado ya desde que un humano piso por última vez este planeta. La nave de reconocimiento se zambulló en la espesa atmósfera y navego entre el grisáceo mar de sus nubarrones, hasta que varios cientos de metros más abajo donde salío a un oscuro cielo despejado, aún faltaban más de ocho horas para el amanecer.
Ante el equipo de exploración se encontraba una región de la larga cadena montañosa que recorría toda la costa occidental del continente, su aspecto, otrora iluminado por miles de puntos de luz, provenientes de las colmenas y poblados Goei, lucía ahora un oscuro y lúgubre panorama.
El lugar del bosque de árboles Gurami, el antiguo centro de la fe Goei, ahora estaba cubierto de lo que asemejaban ser coníferas, que parecían crecer de forma endémica por todo el lugar, ¿qué había sido de las almas de los ancestros goei que poblaban aquel antiguo bosque? y ¿qué había pasado con los millones de sus descendientes que habitaban esta región?, eran las preguntas que debía responder esta misión de exploración.
―¿Hace cuanto tiempo que un humano no está en este lugar? ―preguntó Jean, el joven piloto de la LE33, mientras observaba los vectores de aproximación a la colmena Goei.
―Que se sepa, más de diez mil años ―respondió Diana, desde el fondo de la cabina, donde permanecía sentada aguardando por las ordenes de la misión ―. El incidente Goei ocurrió hace unos quince mil, y se sabe que después de eso, piratas y contrabandistas ocasionalmente estuvieron merodeando por aquí, aunque rara vez se aventuraban más allá de la heliopausa. Pero eso paso así sólo por unos cinco mil años pasado el incidente. Después se perdió todo contacto con Goa.
―Atención todos ―se escuchó decir a Marian, quien repentinamente entró a la cabina ―. La Pericles envió las órdenes. Debemos sobrevolar y registrar cualquier actividad que se encuentre en las colmenas y poblados, esto hasta llegar al norte del continente donde acaban las montañas. En el caso de encontrar alguna señal de vida tenemos que reportarlo de inmediato, para que se nos den nuevas instrucciones.
―Bien empecemos entonces ―dijo Diana, incorporándose del sillón del fondo de la cabina y caminando a la silla de la consola de monitoreo de sensores ―. Activaré todos los sensores para buscar a esos graciosos moluscos.
―Por favor Diana, limita tus tontos comentario, los Goeis no son, ni parecen moluscos ―interrumpió Marian aparentemente molesta.
―Lo siento jefa, sólo quise ser graciosa, nos espera una tarea de varias horas, esto será un poco tedioso.
Después de poco más de quince mil ochocientos años de concluido el incidente Goei y de firmado el acuerdo de Goa, por el cual, los humanos se mantendrían alejados a más de dos años luz del Sol, el Parlamento fue notificado, por una nave mercante, cuya ruta la aproximaba a la región de exclusión, de una transmisión en la banda de láser, que parecía provenir del sistema solar, específicamente de Goa.
El operador de comunicaciones de la nave, que carecía de una unidad de traducción Goei en su base de datos lingüística, solicitó el apoyo inmediato de las unidades militares, creyendo que se trataba de una amenaza, dada la animosidad de los Goei hacia los humanos. A la llegada de un acorazado militar, enviado inmediatamente, desde la estación de monitoreo de la zona de exclusión, el análisis de la transmisión, dio como resultado que se trataba de un llamado de emergencia de las Regentes, quienes pedía apoyo para evacuar el planeta.
Después de estudiar la situación, el Parlamento decidió enviar una pequeña misión de exploración que averiguara exactamente que sucedía en el planeta y así, a pesar de las diferencias, poder brindar la necesaria ayuda a los Goei. La nave Pericles fue enviada con tal propósito.
Empezaba a amanecer cuando, frente a la nave de exploración, se asomaba otra colmena, al igual que las anteriores, casi oculta entre la verde vegetación.
―Marian, la colmena de más adelante muestra la presencia de al menos ciento veinte formas de vida ―dijo Diana, después de varias horas de recorrer la cadena montañosa ―. Creo que los encontramos.

Return to Goa
A dense layer of clouds covered the south-western continent, where the Goei government's headquarters were located, that is known, a long time had passed since a human last stepped on this planet. The reconnaissance ship plunged into the thick atmosphere and sailed through the greyish sea of its clouds, until several hundred meters below where it emerged into a dark, clear sky, it was still more than eight hours before dawn.
Before the exploration team was a region of the long mountain range that ran along the western coast of the continent, its appearance, once illuminated by thousands of points of light from the beehives and Goei villages, now looked dark and gloomy.
The site of the Gurami tree forest, the ancient center of the Goei faith, was now covered with what appeared to be conifers, which seemed to grow endemically throughout the place, what had become of the souls of the Goei ancestors who populated that ancient forest, and what had become of the millions of their descendants who inhabited this region, were the questions this mission of exploration was meant to answer.
-How long has it been since a human has been in this place? -asked Jean, the young pilot of the LE33, while he was observing the approach vectors to the Goei hive.
-Let it be known, more than ten thousand years - answered Diana, from the bottom of the cockpit, where she was sitting waiting for the mission orders-. The Goei incident occurred some fifteen thousand years ago, and it is known that after that, pirates and smugglers occasionally lurked around here, although they rarely ventured beyond the heliopause. But that only happened for about five thousand years after the incident. Then all contact with Goa was lost.
-Attention everyone - you heard Marian, who suddenly entered the cockpit-. The Pericles sent the orders. We are to fly over and record any activity in the hives and settlements until we reach the north of the continent where the mountains end. If we find any sign of life we must report it immediately, so that we can be given further instructions.
-Let's start then -said Diana, getting up from the chair at the back of the cabin and walking to the sensor monitoring console chair -. I will activate all the sensors to search for those funny little molluscs.
-Please, Diana, limit your silly remarks, the Goeis are not, and do not look like, molluscs -interrupted Marian apparently annoyed.
-I'm sorry boss, I just wanted to be funny, we have a task of several hours ahead of us, this will be a bit tedious.
A little over fifteen thousand eight hundred years after the Goei incident ended and the Goa agreement was signed, by which humans would be kept away for more than two light years from the Sun, Parliament was notified, by a merchant ship, whose route brought it closer to the exclusion region, of a transmission in the laser band, which appeared to come from the solar system, specifically from Goa.
The ship's communications operator, who did not have a Goei translation unit in his language database, requested immediate support from military units, believing it to be a threat, given the Goei's animosity towards humans. Upon the arrival of a military battleship, immediately sent from the monitoring station of the exclusion zone, the analysis of the transmission, resulted in an emergency call from the Regents, who asked for support to evacuate the planet.
After studying the situation, Parliament decided to send a small exploratory mission to find out exactly what was happening on the planet and thus, despite the differences, be able to provide the necessary assistance to the Goei. The ship Pericles was sent for that purpose.
It was beginning to dawn when, in front of the exploration ship, another hive appeared, just like the previous ones, almost hidden among the green vegetation.
-Marian, the hive below shows the presence of at least one hundred and twenty life forms -Diane said, after several hours of walking through the mountain range -. I think we found them.
