Today, I will be taking you through the course of sketching, selection of fabrics, trimming and sewing of evening gown. An evening gown is a long dress worn by female to a semi-formal or formal event.
The first step to take is to sketch your design. This could be made easy by checking for other designers collection or catalogs. You can visit the shop of your friend who is a fashion designer or a fashion designer close to your house. Pay attention to details such as a streamlined evening gown with a high slit on the front leg will not need much draping as opposed to a draped bodice that has a full bottom sweep.
Selecting a fabric would be based on your choice and the outcome of your sketch, among other factors. For me I'm using an Ankara fabric for my own evening gown. Other types of materials such as chiffon, velvet, satin, organza and so on can also be used.
Now, carefully cut all your fabrics parts and pin the parts together before stitching. Fabrics that have smooth textures could be difficult to hold in place because they roll from position. If your fabrics shift during stitching it can result in unequal seams.
It took me about two days to complete the dress due to inadequate dedication of time to it. Ordinarily it would take about four hours maximum for me to complete all. I also did the sewing with the help of a friend who assisted with the cutting and ironing of the pieces among other things.
