Blooming cactus - Sulcorebutia langerii

in OCD4 years ago (edited)

I consider myself super lucky to be able to get this beauty in a regular supermarket. Only two pots were left when I got there. The price was also very good for this size cactus with so many little heads. Maybe it is not a rare or super hard to grow cactus, but I definitely don't see them much in regular sale.
I am still not sure of the name (i bought it without a tag as always), so unless proven otherwise, it will stay as it is :)

Sulcorebutia langerii

Native to Bolivia and often found on higher altitudes. It not a big cactus and instead of growing up, will spread sideways pushing more and more new heads filling up the pot. Since it has a fat taproot it is prone to rot and has to be watered carefully. It also needs dry and cooler winter rest to induce flowers. It will lose some of its size in that time, but the root should store enough water and nutrients to help it survive and start again when it gets warmer in spring.

I wasn't sure what colour the flowers will have, since it has no photo or any leftovers of past blooms. I gotta say that I am very pleasantly surprised! I love yellow flowers in general and most of my cacti have pink or red/orange blooms. I am more than happy to get the yellow one. And boy, it is so intensive and bright!

The petals are very delicate and sparkly. Flowers will close for the night and when it is cloudy and open only when the sun is out. Today is the second day that the flower opened. It will last maybe 1-3 more days and then will fade away. But there are 4 mode buds to go!

I bought it in January and repoted it straight away to a bigger pot. I left some room on the sides for it to grow and I was hoping it will be enough for this year. But look, this is the photo I took right after repoting...

...and this is from today. It is already touching the sides!

Hey, nice collections :)

Thanks! :)

I have picked your post for my daily hive voting initiative, Keep it up and Hive On!!

Thank you very much :)

You have the greenest thumb of anyone I have even known! ❤️

Hahaha thanks! I dont show the ones I kill :P

Lovely healthy looking plants. Great shots.

Thank you! I do my best and they seem happy :)

There are some really nice things in here. When I see something like that, I always think about getting new plants in my apartment. I have a little trauma, though, that my connection was accompanied by a total loss of my bonsai trees.

Oh no! I like bonsai tress but I would be scared to have one. Cacti are much easier :) ;)

I see that you are a cactus specialist @ewkaw.

I have several in the garden of my house although I have no particular knowledge about them. From now on I will consult your posts.

Cheers.

Aww thanks! I wouldn't say specialist. I just enjoy them :)

Please show what you have. They must be all happy in the garden.

Beautiful plants you have at home @ewkaw. Let me tell you, they are very easy to care for as they do not require much watering. This is a publlicatons to #amazingnature.

Thank you! Yep :) You can forget about them for a while and they will be fine.
