Chicken chasing and winning hive

in OCD4 years ago (edited)

My Sunday's rarely involve chicken chasing. In fact it's been a long time since I've chased a chicken; I'd say 35 years at least. Today though, it seemed like the right thing to do and so I deployed my, quite finely-honed, chicken chasing skills together with my nephew. Fun? You betcha!

Here's a photo of today's chickeny-festivities. You can see my nephew rounding up a bunch of chickens, after being shown how to chicken-wrangle by uncle G-dog. I'll be honest, he was pretty good at it. Something to do with nimble feet and more youthful vision I think. I recall back to my chicken-chasing days as a youth...I'm just not as good at it these days...I'm out of practice!

We went for lunch at a friends place today; We were all there, my brother and sister and our partners, the couple who were hosting us, their daughter and child and her partner. This particular friend has known my family for a long time and we lived in the same street so we are pretty close. He will be one of the pallbearers carrying my dad's casket at his funeral tomorrow. That's how close we are.

We sat around the table, shared food and stories of the old days which was really nice as we heard some good ones about mum and dad that we'd not heard before. There's something special about reminiscing with friends over a meal don't you think?

After lunch we took the kids out to the back yard and let them play around with the ducks, chickens and two turkeys, whilst the adults talked about homesteading, vegetable gardens, fruit trees and stuff like that.

My nephew, only 22 months, was a little scared of the turkeys at first, they were as big as him, but he didn't mind chasing the chickens around...As long as uncle G-dog was there to help...And I was because I got the little kid's back like a good uncle should.

We had a really great day to be honest; One of those cool family days where everyone pitches in to help prepare food, set the table and clean up. One of loud conversations and and lots of laughter. It was a nice way to spend Sunday.

That covers the chicken-chasing aspect of this post...But what about the winning hive part?

I bet he was much better than were... Lol
It's always so good spending memorable times with family and friends.

The little tacker was really good at chicken chasing but...He fell over a couple times too. You know when kids get a bit of momentum going but their feet can;t seem to keep u? He did that. He's cool though...He just gets up and keeps going. A good little lad.

I laughed at that turkey part.. yeah he should be scared of those turkey, they are not even good looking at all plus they are as big as he is.

Here in my country, we have crazy chickens. Why I said so is that, this ones pursue human being and also dogs 😂😂.

There are Chicken that have mind to do such. I won't lie, chicken have pursue me before 😂😂😂, I could remember that one it was with it's children, so I wanted to take one of them.

If you see how the chicken follow me, wanting to attack me. I ran the hell 😂😂😂.

Have chicken pursue you before? 😂😂😂

I won't lie, chicken have pursue me before

Lol, maybe they like you😛

I can''t recall being chased by a chicken before, but have heard they can be a little aggressive. I think geese are worse though, and they have a nasty bite I think as well.

I remember when I went for a chicken chase when i was little. Instead of chasing the chicken, I ended up being chased heavily by it🤣🤣🤣I was so scared...it a day I would never forget. But as I see here, your nephew is handling it pretty good.

He's a toughblittle bugger. What you can't see here is the way he clung to me like a koala bear for 20 minutes before he would even get on the ground with the chickens. He got used to them and then chicken chasing began.

Haha🤣🤣I would have loved to see the video of you in a chicken chase.😆 it'd be very funny

It was funny...Maybe one day it'll make it's way to hive.

Alright sir, I'd be patiently waiting for that day

Yepp, always cool to remember the old days.

Lol, it would be funny to see some of your pics chasing chickens too.😄

Seeing pictures of the G-dog chicken chasing is not something the blockchain will ever see I think although I think my wife Faith got some video...If you bribe her somehow she might be coerced into hacking my account and posting them. Lol.

If you bribe her somehow....

Okk, let's wait for hive to reach $100, then maybe I can have some money to do that. lol.

Deal! 1000 hive at $100USD each should do it...Lol.

Hello dear friend @galenkp good day
I love weekends with family and friends, especially if I have a little nephew to run to the chickens.
I also did it as a young man, now at 52 I can run them but without having any success in catching them.
I feel very happy for you, you are having a great time in the company of your family
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid week, full of happiness and love

Thanks mate. Have a good week too.

That looks so nice man I’m glad! Getting kids in there with animals and the outdoors is so important! Plus heaving you’re badass uncle nearby to help you is always a plus for the little guy!

Glad you enjoyed some quality family time!

Lol...Yeah, it was a quality day mate. A real family-oriented Sunday. My dad's funeral is tomorrow so it won't be as jovial, but after the tears will come the celebration of my dad's life, which we will carry forward.

I was wondering if that had already happened. The moments at the funeral are definitely full of sadness and emotion but afterwards and going forward is usually some good reminiscing and memories of the really special times, and their fun nuances.

I'm not looking forward to the funeral. Been to so many, but this is my dad, my last parent. I'm going to be very upset.

I look at that picture and can hear the 'Rocky' theme cranking up. Chicken chasing is an art form passed down from generation to generation. I'm glad you and your nephew have done your part to continue the tradition.

I'm glad you had your day of chicken chasing and laughter. As I write this it is almost your tomorrow, which won't be much of a laugher. I'll be thinking of you and yours today.

We were training Rocky-style for sure...Didn't do me much good, but the little tacker had a blast.

Thanks for your thoughts re: Tomorrow. Much appreciated.

Glad you all had a great catch up day, and I hope tomorrow goes as well as can be for the funeral mate.

Thank you bro, I appreciate that very much. 🤙

I'm still scared of turkeys till date, I feel they're just too big and a bit aggressive

Big birds for sure.

Good on the table with cranberry sauce though. 🙂

Hahahaha.... True

Seriously, as need someone to take a full length video of G-dog trying to round up chickens. Now I'd pay to see that... Just imagine the entertainment of seeing an angry Aussie chase around chicks and cocks, eh? No guns, just loads of stamina and good leg-days.

Oddly enough, I was just reading up about this article here while I was browsing through Twitter. It immediately reminded me of you...

Yeah, I saw that bloke. Just another typical day in Australia. 😂

This is the sort of thing I'd expect to see in Australia, to be honest. I'd expect a snake to be handled with care, using a stick to lead it into some cage... But no, here's an Aussie stabbing it with his knife 😆

Lol...Yeah, not environmentally friendly but then if you were locked in the cab of a car with one of these bastards I reckon you'd do the same. I would. 😂

Haha, true! I don't have a knife on me, but there is a handy screwdriver that I keep in the glovebox. I don't care if that snake is the only one left in its species, I WILL stab it to death, and the last thing it'll ever see as I strangle it, is a Phillips screw head. To hell with nature 😆

Snakes freak me out...I'd do the same for sure although more likely to shoot it.

Those snakes be slithering about, and you're never going to know where they'd end up! Think you can shoot a slim and slender snake-y boy from a mile away with your rifle?

If you catch one... Do not attempt to hold it by the neck. Cuz then it just gets weird... LoL Chicken Chaser Choker

So many chicken chokers out there, no need to add more to the list. state and federal parliament is full of them!

What, no video? I think we would like to see the video of you chasing your chickens! (Just not choking your chicken).
K

Haha...Yep, no chicken choking...Well, maybe later...

Aaa so much fun! I miss chicken chasing, gosh it is so fun to be a kid!

I might have looked like an idiot through said chicken chasing...But I had fun with my little nephew.

You looked so awesome and cool! I loved it! I bet you both had such a great time😎
