IELTSwithme: Writing P2 - Government should spend money on railways or roads?

in OCD4 years ago

How's it going? I hope that it is all good at your end. Vietnam seems to be successful in containing the pandamic and hopefully, I can go somewhere soon and share my trip with you guys here.

At the moment, lets continue with my boring series IELTS with me. It is not that boring, isn't it? xD

My writing normally lacks coherence. I'm working on it but I dont really know how to fix it without IELTS veteran's help.

Q: Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

People think that the state budget should not be spent on roads but railways. From my point of view, although rail travel has shown particularly benefits, I believe that both should be adequately developed as they are component parts of a country’s transport network.

To begin with, it is understandable why people express a strong preference for railways over roads nowadays. Considering that climate crisis is taking place globally, traveling by train, especially an electronic one, can be seen as a greener way of travel. Additionally, by spending money to develop railways and encouraging people to use this means of transport instead of personal vehicles, governments could manage congestion and curb traffic accidents significantly. Furthermore, there is also a growing tendency for tourists to travel by train rather than other common forms of transportation, bus or taxi for example. As such, spending state budget on constructing and upgrading rail lines in particular attractions is probably deemed a good investment.

On the other hand, roads play an integral part in a country’s infrastructure, which cannot be underinvested regardless of how beneficial railways appear. First, many places would be inaccessible without a road network which is available in almost every nook and cranny of a country. Second, while rail travel is likely to be impacted by weather such as snows, heavy rains, and even heatwaves, resulting in many unexpected delays and cancellations, people have hardly ever experienced the same when commuting on roads, only except for extreme weather events. Finally, an inadequacy of investment for the road network will cause the infrastructure to be degraded and ultimately lower people’s life quality as road transports are still widely used in most countries.

In conclusion, a national transport network cannot be sufficient and complete without either railways or roads as both show their own advantages in travel. Therefore, both should be invested by governments equally and adequately.

So many fancy words. I think I need to take IELTS test soon but the scores will be just meh

Haha. Not fancy enough tho.
Why do u need to take ielts test? What is it for? U are already a great content creator. I have a full time job which may require this ielts cert. Otherwise, I would never think of taking any test. 😁

I want to go study in Canada and also want to try to find a professional kind of work. Let's see how it goes :/

Oh. It sounds good. I feel like your english is almost native. If u ever take a test, u will do just fine.

daily conver yes. fancy stuff i go to hell

More public transportation would be great for the environment but some countries like to waste money on cars. Large corporations don’t want public transportation so that they can sell more cars and get people in debt. Governments will do what they can to help large businesses.

Gotta buy bitcoin and hold less government fiat currency.... or a tesla ;)

Oh. Very good point. I didnt think of that, as in Vietnam there are still more bikes than cars. :)) Thanks.

Next time, if there any topic relate to finance or money, I’m gonna bring Bitcoin into my ielts writing. Kind of controversal but interesting tho 😂😂

you have to test your teacher 😂

but, yes. I do agree with you it's very controversial.
