A few mins before i started writing this post i ran into a tweet by @acidyo on twitter where he shared a chart where he humorously tried to compare the US dollar to a shitcoin. I didnt check the data "exactly" but the numbers its presenting is in line with what i know about the topic.
I didnt really want to write a 100 tweets trying to explain all the reasons why this doesnt matter at all so i basically just shared the fact that these numbers, in the wider context, dont matter at all. :)

image.png

The funny thing about this chart is that it shows a 200 year time frame for the decline in buying power for USD, while most cryptos went down 90%+ in less then a year.😂

The tweet made me want to examine a few things in a bit more depth that arent really directly related to the tweet itself but rather with the chart i saw.
In case you expected to be the target of another one of my "hatchet jobs", no worries, the rest of the post doesnt really relate to the tweet much. 😘

Da post:

Regardless of the time in history, regardless of the country (as far as i can see) there is one belief that is shared by all groups of people.

"The now" sucks.

Lets put aside the outrage and cancel culture for a second and consider something else. Something much more elusive to pinpoint.
What we also have is a culture of unappreciative complainers and that culture is much harder to pinpoint because all of us are guilty of it.

Make America Great Again?

Im not here to praise the US but when was America greater then it is today? 2010s, global crisis, the Iraq war, a fuck up, Cold war and nuclear threat, Vietnam war which they lost, Jim Crow laws, segregation, racism, The great depression, slavery....
When was it better?

Leftists?

image.png

When was it better for you? Well, the answer to that question would probably be: "DURING COMMUNISM". Or would it?
But thats not actually true for anyone that wasnt a lazy and corrupt scumbag and part of the ruling structure.
The US didnt have to deal with that taking over their country, by us Europeans did.

I had Yugoslavia. Where 1 person worked while 10 were jerking off, where your property would be taken and given to people simply because you had stuff and they were in the communist party and didnt.
If you had a plot of land you earned or inherited and another person didnt, theyd take it from you and give it to them. If you had 2 apartments you worked hard to buy theyd take one away and give it to someone else. Everyone had jobs and no one had to work at all.
Sure, you werent allowed to drive your car every second day of the week because there was not enough gasoline to go around, you had 1 type of car, 1 type of chocolate and 1 thing you couldnt complain about. The ruling party.

Yugoslavian Alcatraz. The Soviet one is much bigger and it has snow and stuff.

We just forget this stuff. We forget what a free market gave us and what we have now.

Your ancestors rode horses and starved if it didnt rain. You fly in a plane between continents for less then a average monthly paycheck in most developed nations.

They had dirty water, died from easily curable diseases by todays standard and were abused in million different ways by rulers and lords, slave owners, kings, dictators, by the church and by autocrats of any kind.
And what do we complain about today?

"Game of thrones season 8 sucked so hard", "Rey is Mary Sue!", "There was room on the door, Leo didnt have to die!".

image.png

Its actually wonderful that we can complain about those things. Doesnt that even more prove the point? When could we have before?
When in the history of humanity did you have the privilege to talk about such trivial crap with such a passion?
Not when you were dodging The Plaque, the Nazis, the Huns.
Never. Unless you were high born.

To go back to the start and that chart. In Acids case that chart was used to make a funny statement about fiat... But in reality, if someone looks at it, it might show something else to them without context. It might be used as a tool by some very unsavory people. It might show that stuff is getting worse.

The purchasing power of the US dollar has been plummeting. Oh, dear god our ekomony!!! We need to PANIC!!!

But no worries, we have an answer if you only buy what wer selling.

image.png

But in reality this chart is insignificant. It doesnt show anything beyond the numbers it does show on the chart. It says nothing about the US or the state of it. Expanded to the world stage and fiat as a whole it wouldnt reveal anything in that case either.
A person looking at it would presume that wer at a point in time when we should fear for our future, something the foul mouthed maximalist cretins and other crypto extremists push forth like the doomsayers of old that profited from the attention just the same. Those that capitalize on fear and ignorance.
From fake of a story as any of those you might hear in the news today. Where ever you look you will find an extremist that considers you a fool and a tool for them to use for personal benefit. When it comes to BLM, right wing groups, crypto extremists. Whoever.
Everyone has their own little agendas and youre the one that ends up spreading falsehoods for them.

In truth.

We have never been as educated, we have never been better connected, we have never been wealthier, we have never had more opportunity, the poverty rates have never been so low, the global GDP per capita adjusted for inflation has never been so high, the likelyhood of a violent death has never been so low, childhood mortality has never been lower, never have we been more free, never have we lived longer.

If all that is true, which it is, dont we all just live in a time of complainers and naive and misguided cynicism.

Sometimes its important taking a step back and looking at the wider context

or maybe im wrong about everything and infinitely complaining about life is what makes it better for the next generation. lol 😉

Peace.

ill proof read it in the morning.

Sort:

while most cryptos went down 90%+ in less then a year.

why this comparison? doesn't make much sense imo. usd in that case was the highest at 1.6$ starting at $1 while most crypto's still remained above their starting price even after the bear market. Like I realize all the reasons this can't be compared but it's annoying when people point to how much something dropped from its ATH.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Well i tried to use the same logic. The shitcoin-USD comparison doesnt make much sense in the first place being simply a humorous remark. I presumed your point was to poke at its PP chart looking like a shitcoin chart. And i responded that it took USD 200 years to get there while the crypto market can get there in less then a year.
Its a remark as your original one, attempting at humor or whatnot. Doesnt really matter.

Well there's a lot to take out of it but sometimes, I feel like it is all relative.

On one side, we need to be more appreciative of the way life is now but in some situations, like in Nigeria, life was actually way better in the past than it is now. There's been steady decline in just about everything and the country is slowly declining to failed nation level.

Let me give you a recent events; I bought my phone for 45,000naira in January and then on Tuesday, me and my girlfriend went to get one for her and it costs 58,000 naira. This is because at a time when we're suppose to tighten our belts and slug it out, we're still trying to pretend like all is well, when in truth, we're dying slowly.

I don't know about the dollar because as far as I can tell, it keeps rising against Naira (was 360 per dollar in January and it is 460 per dollar now) and life in America seems like paradise for us here. But I know for a fact that my corner of the World is in the shitters.

I could ramble on and on about healthcare, power supply, and other basic amenities but it is some shit you've probably heard before.

The point is, that chart may not mean much to dollar but Naira is behaving way worse than most shitcoins in the world, so it might not totally be useless.

On the global scale things are getting much better in almost every category. I cant say for Nigeria specifically but you will always have those that dont follow the group.
Now, i have to assume, since Nigeria isnt North Korea and doesnt live in a bubble that Nigeria also benefit from the advancement in technology and progressed in many areas.
Then again, maybe youre one of those that are regressing in the short term. That still doesnt change the reality of the human race overall living in the best of times it has ever lived

I generally feel that life is better now than it has ever been on the planet Earth. Sure there is a lot of war suffering out there and that sucks.. but generally and by large we have people living longer, we have a lower statistical probability of death across the world, more educated people, and more options for even further good... This is the best time to be alive!

Glad you agree.

❤️🙏 YEA!

You ain't wrong about anything..

Im always wrong!.... no wait, i meant never. Im never wrong. 😎 lol
