Maybe you are better informed than me, or maybe you don't know what is going on, but you have been shocked by the image of many people trying to board a plane to leave their country, determined not to live under the rule of the terrible Taliban. If you want to know what is really happening and what is the origin of the conflict, keep reading this article.
Tal vez estés mejor informado que yo, o quizá no sepas lo que está sucediendo, pero te has quedado sorprendido ante la imagen de muchas personas tratando de abordar un avión para salir de su país, decididos a no vivir bajo el mando de los terribles talibanes. How did it all start?
¿Cómo comenzó todo?
Since 1979, Afghanistan was ruled by the Soviet Union, but despite this, an insurgent group called "The Moyahidin" (from the word jihad which means effort and which Muslims take as a religious obligation) emerged.
Desde 1979, Afganistán estaba regido por la Unión Soviética, pero a pesar de esto surgió un grupo insurrecto llamado «Los Moyahidines» (proviene de la palabra yihad que significa esfuerzo y que los musulmanes toman como una obligación religiosa).
At that time, the United States supported with weapons the insurgents who were against the Soviet communism that ruled the whole country, with the purpose of overthrowing the government. With the fall of the Soviet Union, on December 26, 1991, the Moyahidin managed to obtain power in the country, however, as this organization was made up of various Islamic groups, there began to be discrepancies among them, so they started an internal war to decide which of them would take control. The winners of this internal war were the Taliban.
En ese momento, los Estados Unidos apoyó con armas a los insurgentes que estaban en contra del comunismo soviético que regía el país, con la finalidad de derrocar al gobierno. Con la caída de la Unión sovietica, el 26 de diciembre de 1991, los Moyahidines lograron obtener el poder del país, no obstante, como esta organización estaba conformada por diversos grupos islámicos, comenzó a haber discrepancias entre ellos, entonces iniciaron una guerra interna para decidir cual de ellos se quedaba con el control. Los ganadores de esta guerra interna fueron los Talibanes.
They occupied Kabull, the capital of the country, and from there set up a government they called the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan" governed by "Sharia" (Islamic law). The Taliban believe that governments should be governed by this code of conduct, a code that would seem crazy to anyone from a Western country, or at least one that doesn't have an extremist way of thinking.

* All men must wear beards.

* Women must not wear makeup and are required to cover their face with a Burka (a tunic that covers up to the head and has only a grid at eye level).

* If any woman exposes her ankles, she is whipped.

* Girls over the age of ten are not allowed to go to school.

* Television, movies and music are prohibited.
- La televisión, el cine y la música están prohibidos.
* Thieves are punished with the amputation of the hand, and may even lose their lives.

These are just a few of the many rules that the Taliban had in place to govern Afghanistan in the 1990s until the early 2000s.

On September 9, 2001, the attack on the twin towers in New York occurred. The United States immediately blamed the Taliban for hiding the leader of the terrorist group "Al Qaeda", Osama Bin Laden, who claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Taliban refused to hand over the leader and because of this, the United States decided to invade the country on October 7, 2001, with the intention of dismantling the terrorist group "Al Qaeda" and removing the Taliban from power, the latter was achieved on December 12 of the same year, however, all members of "Al Qaeda" fled to Pakistan, through the mountains. From there they continued to obtain weapons and prepared to improve their techniques, thus becoming a constant threat.

With the Taliban out of power and international involvement, changes began to take place in the country, a new constitution based on human rights was drafted and elections were called, but a problem arose, it was the first time the country had the opportunity to elect a leader, however, neither the police nor the Afghan army were prepared to rule a country that had been controlled by insurgents.
Con los talibanes fuera del poder y la participación internacional, comenzó a haber cambios en el país, se redactó una nueva constitución basada en los derechos humanos y se convocó a elecciones, pero surgió un problema, era la primera vez que el país tenía la oportunidad de elegir a un líder, sin embargo, ni la policía ni el ejército afgano estaban preparados para regir un país que había estado controlado por insurgentes.
Because of this, in 2006, NATO took command of international operations and took over the training of the Afghan army, however, the Taliban were not resigned to losing control, and therefore constantly attacked the country with the weapons they continued to obtain, even from their hiding place, sowing terror among the population.

In 2020 an agreement was reached, foreign troops would be withdrawn from the country if the Taliban stopped their attacks, therefore, the Nato began to leave gradually, however, the Taliban ignored the deal, and in May 2021 intensified the attacks that to top it off were carried out in rural areas of the country, as they were the most vulnerable and would give in immediately, almost without resistance.
En el 2020 se llegó a un acuerdo, Las tropas extranjeras serían retiradas del país si los Talibanes detenían sus ataques, por lo tanto, la Otán comenzó salir paulatinamente, no obstante, los Talibanes hicieron caso omiso del trato, y en mayo del 2021 intensificaron los ataques que para colmo se llevaban a cabo en zonas rurales del país, ya que eran las más vulnerables y cederían de inmediato, casi sin resistencia.
The Taliban are so well organized and armed (plus they get almost no resistance on their way, due to the withdrawal of international forces) that from August 6 they have been taking cities and towns all over the country in only ten days. They were advancing very fast until finally taking the capital, Kabull.

Once in Kabull, they regained the control they had in the past. The president, Ashraf Ghani left the country on Sunday, seeing that the Taliban had taken control of almost the entire country, implementing an absurd hegemony that has terrified all citizens, especially those who already lived under their rules, for this reason, many people have come to Kabull International Airport to flee in desperation.

The rigid and absurd laws that governed in the past make no distinction between locals and foreigners. She claims that previously, she had worn a headscarf on the streets of Kabull, but now she has been forced to wear a Chador (a veil) to completely cover her head.
