The wood burning stove keeps the house more than warm enough in the winter, but just in case we leave the house for a few days, we have backup electric baseboard heaters. I don't like stepping out of a hot shower and into a cold bathroom, so I sprung for a Mysa smart thermostat for the bathroom's baseboard heater.

Mysa Smart Thermostat for baseboard heaters

The Mysa smart thermostat is a WiFi connected and controllable thermostat for high voltage electric heating - like baseboards, fan-forced heaters, hydronic baseboards, and in-ceiling radiant heaters. It works with 120 volt or 240 volt heaters and has a 3800 watt maximum (Source).

Smart functions with the phone app

I mostly use the Mysa phone app to turn on the bathroom heater from the bedroom if it's chilly and I'm going to have a shower soon. In true miser fashion, I use the Schedule to turn off the heater at scheduled times, just in case someone turned it on and didn't turn it off when they're done. I wish there was a timer function so that when it was turned on it would automatically turn off after 30 minutes - i'm hoping it will appear one day with an app update.

The Display Removes for an Easy Install

The front LED display and simple touch panel unit pulls off the thermostat for easy installation - fits standard light switch box, simple wiring with good instructions, after installing the app and adding the unit, done. The manual functions are raising or lowering the temperature by a degree with the up or down buttons - they're not the most sensitive touch buttons, I prefer to use the app. A couple seconds after manually adjusting the temperature, the display reverts back to the current temperature display. The active and passive brightness of the display can be adjusted in the Mysa app settings.

Ten pins connect to the display unit to the Mysa, that ESP32 WiFi micro controller is where the magic happens. It's like a bathroom night light, welcoming - it's been useful having the thermometer on the wall, knowing if it's actually cold or if it's just me.

For backup heat in the living room and bedrooms, I have 4 foot baseboard heaters with add-on thermostats. These add-on thermostats were a cheaper $15 alternative to the $140 Mysa smart thermostat. Seamless installation, easy instructions, and it saves having to wire and install a wall thermostat.

I'll most likely keep the living room and bedroom heater breakers off until vacation in the winter, but I've enjoyed keeping the bathroom hot and lit up at night with the Mysa smart baseboard thermostat.

Do you have a smart home device that you use often ?
