THE EMERGING CICADAS

in OCD3 years ago

It's that time of year again...

Personally, I really enjoy a lot of the creepy crawly creatures out there. They are so interesting, and each have their own roles to play in the natural world. Ever since I was a child, cicadas have fascinated me. They are like two completely different creatures in their larval and adult stages, and the metamorphosis that they go through is mind-blowing.

If you've never seen a cicada emerge from the shell of its larval stage, I'd highly recommend it, and even recorded some footage that shows it in the video above. While enjoying some time at a campground recently, my Little-Peppers found both stages of the cicada, plus an exoskeleton too. The smaller one in the photos below is a cicada in its larval stage. They live underground and then crawl to the surface to metamorphosize, usually climbing up the base of a tree and securing themselves to it so that the adult form can emerge. That crazy winged one in the photos below is the adult form.

Have you ever seen these in real life. Did you realize that they start out underground before becoming those noisy, flying insects? Did you know that some people eat them? Enjoy the photos

That toad was like: "Is this a free fresh meal, are you trying me or what?" 😅
Nice stuff the 70 minutes timelapse footage👍

The one with wings was very noisy.
We named it here ( dede khung).
What is the real name in your place?

Nothing like the Summer song of the Cicada :)
