Squirrel time here today!

After the severe storms, some asked if our squirrels survived!

Yes, they are all youngsters and their father (Scarface) disappeared about 8 months ago, most likely taken by a raptor bird, but the mom "Squirry" has taught her youngsters how to ride out a storm.
So here are a few in action to show you that they are all okay!

IMG_1064.JPG

We try to stick to their natural diet and Marian laid out some acorn tree nuts for them.

Of course"Timmy" short for "Timid" that lives in the palm tree is an avocado pear junkie and you can see him with a slice here above!

If I go any closer he will slip around to the other side of the tree trunk!
A very shy little guy!

Now what would this little one be thinking?

This little Robin chat was hanging around to pick up the scraps!

And That's All Folks!

Whenever people ask me about our gale force winds and terrible storms, I simply tell them to "Google" the "Cape of Storms".
Winds that can reach 160kph that suddenly jump up out of nowhere and that was the cause of many sunken ships along our coastlines.

But thankfully, even our smallest animals and birds know how to take shelter when things turn bad.

Ha, they all look so cute, sweet little squirrels, and the robin is a little beauty too.
I'm glad the storms didn't hurt them and they survived 😀

Thank you Hannes,

I can remember how worried we were about them at the first storm, but it was still wet outside after the storm and thet reappearded looking for nuts. We gave them some extra nuts to get their stomach full, as it generates heats that help them to endure the cold.

So by now, they are all storm veterans lol.
Of course there will be a new batch of babies soon, as the mother who we call "Squirry" is now missing for awhile.

Cheers and thanks!

You're very welcome Zac 😄

You said the father flew away with a big bird - I wonder who then will be the new father. Don't tell me one of her sons 😉

Hahaha, no Hannes,

The father will come from another tribe. Nature has an ingenious way to avoid inter breeding, else the offspring will become weak and crippled. So the deputy chief in another tribe will cast his eye on the widow in our tribe.
Or maybe the chief himself hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

Ok, good answer Zac 😁
Let it be the chief - his children might get stronger and the boys could become chiefs too 😊

Hahaha, soon we will have many chiefs running around here and not enough women Hannes.
This could break out in a civil war in squirrel land and we want to avoid that hahaha.

Cheers and thanks!

I would say "lucky women" but I think it's different in squirrel land 😁

They are Egyptian Goose goslings!

Blessings!

I have a sort of affinity with the squirrels as each time I see a picture of one, or of the chipmunks, it does make my heart sing ! 😁 And the pics of ducklings, chicks or like here, the goose goslings, well it melt my heart and I just want to touch their fluffy duvet 😄

Your soul is in nature my dear friend, right next to mine.

Blessings to you!

Only place outside of Cape Town I have seen squirrels is St Lucia, they such a cute bunch you have there visiting daily.

Robin with his red bib and gorgeous white eye-brow, yes that is what I thought, very distinctive markings and relatively small.

Enjoy your Sunday Stephen and greetings to Marian and the furry friend family.

We were so blessed to find "Squirry" here when we moved in 1 year and 2 days ago Lady Joan.
It was relatively easy to befriend here and now that all of the kids also stay here, the neighbors are in awe, as they have never seen it before. Some of the neighbors are living here for more than 28 years.

Also some new residents have arrived, ever heard of a African mourning dove? (Streptopeila decipiens)
Or a "Red Eyed dove" ((Streptopeila semitorquata)?

This is a "Cape Spurfowl" that decided to come and have a look at our garden.
Must have heard the story that there is food here lol.

May you guys have a blessed new week my friend!
