Sunday country Sunday

We headed to our friend's parent's summer place today, to celebrate the 8th birthday of my wife's goddaughter and more importantly, eat waffles with fresh berries and cream. It was a hard day. The cottage is a typical Finnish summer place, but it is quite a cute little place set into the forest and not too far from the lake. Our daughter loves everything about cottage life except, outdoor toilets. She is a bit of a princess in this regard, but I don't really blame her much.

OI000336.jpg

It has been a pretty chilled weekend for midsummer and we haven't had to stress too much over schedules or being somewhere as we have mostly kicked it around the neighborhood and just enjoyed #homelife in the summer - barbecuing, spending time outside and not doing too much of anything. Yesterday, I did fire-up the chainsaw for the first time and cut a bit of the wood, but I didn't make much of a dent before heading off to the beach.

OI000328.jpg

Posts like the one on curation I added yesterday take me a fair bit of time to put together as I can't just flow thoughts like I normally would and it wears me down more because of it. A lot of the benefits of writing for me is the "taking of space" to order my head and get out what is on my mind, something that I really wish everyone would do more of.

OI000333.jpg

The other day while having a drink together with friends, we were talking about how most people get themselves into trouble early by believing they know what they are good at and will enjoy later on in life, which rarely works. We often choose our "career path" based on what we think will earn us something rather than spend time exploring to find out what we could fall in love with. @dswigle was writing yesterday about passion and I think that this ties in with our early process.

OI000325.jpg

Choosing what will make us money might not be a bad move early on, as I think that for most of us, we are far too immature and inexperienced to understand what it actually means to be passionate about something. These days, it might even be worse as I think what people mistake for passion is more lust - and while this is often seen in relationships, it is applied to other factors of life too.

OI000331.jpg

We desire something based on a naive perspective and "get passionate" about it but not for long enough to actually fall in love with it. Commitment is largely dead in the new world generations as they live the disposable life, with a buy and discard attitude to everything - so they skip and jump around topics being "passionate" in the some way a one nightstand is loving.

OI000330.jpg

For me at least, I think that passion sneaks up while doing something that might not even be that interesting to begin with and then, something happens to change the attention. Often, something small and relatively insignificant can be the catalyst to draw a bit more energy and perhaps change the perspective, to think again on what it means to do this or that - and then the dive down the rabbit hole begins.

OI000332.jpg

As I have said before, I believe the "love what you do and you'll never work a day" saying is bullshit and buying into the idea gets people into trouble. The hardest someone can ever work in their lives is doing something they love because as they say, love is boundless, it just keeps on demanding more and more. When people have been conditioned to believe that work is something to be avoided, it creates a conflict and a barrier to actually finding that passionate task as generally, the investment on the work side has to be done before the passion arrives. Finding passion is hard work.

OI000327.jpg

Speaking of hard work, this little, wooden building was built 38 years ago and I am glad to say, it is in pretty good condition. The cottage owners are the parent's of our neighbor and owned the house across the road prior to them purchasing it from them. This storage and outdoor toilet was built by the person who built our house, a land developer who did many of the houses in the area. It is cool to see the connections between places, the little strings of familiar that tie the area and the people together through time.

I am not sure if I am a passionate person myself, but I am definitely not afraid of commitment or work so perhaps one day, it'll sneak up and bite me. Maybe it already has, and I am too busy doing it to notice how I feel about it. Ever notice that when you are in the zone, emotions are irrelevant? This could be a side of The devil finds work for idle hands. It is probably better to work for a passion rather than letting the devil choose for us.

That is the way I feel about passion, truly. It grows on you, much like love. You can have love at first sight, but, many times, it burns hot and then burns out. For me, it develops without me even knowing until one day, I wake up and know I cannot be without.

Passion is the same for me. I'm old enough to not throw it away for something new. ;)

Thanks for the shoutout and the words within the framework of this post. Words and thoughts are your passion!!! ;)

I think that the relationships that are developed over time to become loving are probably more likely to last and perhaps be more healthy, as it didn't start from a position of wanting and the need to impress.

Passion is the same for me. I'm old enough to not throw it away for something new. ;)

Some live much of their life falling in and out of arms until one day, they realize there is nothing left to hold them.

Thanks for the shoutout and the words within the framework of this post. Words and thoughts are your passion!!! ;)

You are most welcome :)

Happy Father's Day! American style!! You have been showing off more of smallsteps which I personally l love. I love her leadibg the way, but the jump off was great!

I love her leading the way, but the jump off was great!

She is reserved in her life and stands back until she has all the info she needs - then takes charge :D

We often choose our "career path" based on what we think will earn us something rather than spend time exploring to find out what we could fall in love with.

To some extent I followed my passion on my career choice. Tbh I'll easily give it up for a $200,000 and above career paying job

Tbh I'll easily give it up for a $200,000 and above career paying job

I think that if you lived it a while doing something you didn't like for the money, you might start feeling empty and seeking for something else. The money might give you that opportunity, but the trap is that once in, one needs more money before leaving.

As I have said before, I believe the "love what you do and you'll never work a day" saying is bullshit and buying into the idea gets people into trouble.

This I fully agree. The thought never really allows a person to find what they love to do. That changes from age to age as one grows. The things I liked and loved when I was 18 are no longer the things I like and love at age 25, or 33, or 42, or 56. If one wants to be able to really kick back, then a consistent approach to work is required. Like any thing in life, there are good, and bad things to work. Treat work like a relationship, and grow with it, in your twilight years you will be glad you did, your relationships outside of work will benefit from it also,

I love the picture you captured of smallsteps, taking the leap.

Like any thing in life, there are good, and bad things to work.

I think this is where the love really comes into it because, the bad isn't that bad because it supports the good. When passionate, it is like a holistic approach to the task, everything gets considered.

your relationships outside of work will benefit from it also,

A society of people doing what they love would be an interesting place to live.

I love the picture you captured of smallsteps, taking the leap.

Thanks, I haven't taken any action shots for awhile and am out of practice :)

Seems like you still have in good shape your one eye which is still well connected to your brain. :D

eye-brain coordination is something I suffer with, but I have met lots of pretty girls.

Hard to believe!! But yeah, you will have to guess which one is the hardest. :)

That's a big jump for @smallsteps
Blowing hard and cold here; I'd swap this for a Finnish Summer BBQ in a heartbeat :)

She is growing in confidence :)

You are welcome anytime. It sucks hard that @galenkp can't make it this year - they should have been arriving in 3 weeks.

Lovely place that where The Cottage is located indeed. Almost make me wish to also wander around there if it wasn't for the extreme freezing ass minus 0° degrees cold weather over there sometimes. LoL

Oh! and what amazing sense of time and opportunity to catch & freeze some 'elusive & difficult' great memories to enmesh in digital format for who is close to become a happy 'country' grand daddy in no time. :D

if it wasn't for the extreme freezing ass minus 0° degrees cold weather over there sometimes. LoL

Dress in layers!

I'm afraid of try it. I am really a beast of pure hot blood. I don't like in the least cold weathers and even less the shivers which usually comes with it. ;D

Or maybe you are a cold-blooded lizard and need a sunning rock :P

Oh, wow... I attract in your first sentence then the food, after that the images! LOL

I like this sentence and that is the fact!

These days, it might even be worse as I think what people mistake for passion is more lust - and while this is often seen in relationships, it is applied to other factors of life too.

And we are the same with this words of yours below, that is why I like your articles...

Stay safe my friend... God bless you and your family... (^_^)

Who doesn't like waffles?

Have a great week ahead :)

I love waffles! hahahahaha... (^_^) Waffles plus coffee! Winner in the morning! LOL

Passion, what a strong word "Passion", how to give a true meaning to something that has its roots in the deepest part of our being.

Maybe we use it without sense or at wrong times, I stay in my thoughts what you say and it is very true sometimes we confuse what we call passion, like other things in life, without a doubt we have to see beyond what we see and feel more with free thinking and don't get confused. Wow I think I strayed from the subject, to end the photos are great, beautiful place, greetings.

Perhaps it is like love, we use it even when we don't mean it?

Yes, but watch from this point, each breath fills our lungs with oxygen, an electric charge that makes us fly and maybe want to touch the sun with one hand, well, that's what I feel, maybe you don't understand much what I'm saying since my English is very bad and the language barrier makes it more difficult.

But something if I can assure you of love and passion are prestigious if we don't know how to use or differentiate it, it's like that wise man once said; power and money seem the same but they are not.

That's a really great life lesson - that what you think you might want to pursue may essentially be a mirage on the horizon and in fact you might just trip and fall right over the thing you were meant to do on the way to that vision. The same is true of hobbies, side passions, avocations of all kinds. You could build a kite for a child and suddenly realize that kite building is art, science, and craft in one, and the opportunities are endless. Next thing you know you have a kite hobby, or you've opened a kite shop. And then you run into someone you knew in high school, and they're like, "Weren't you going to be a psychologist?"

I also like the idea that blogging is an opportunity to organize your thoughts. I think that is why I have fallen in love with it. It's the thing I stumbled upon on the way to the mirage. I just need to sit down more often and really do it.

I also like the idea that blogging is an opportunity to organize your thoughts.

Much of life passes us by unless we are paying attention. The writing helps focus where we might skip over for something shinier.

Next thing you know you have a kite hobby, or you've opened a kite shop. And then you run into someone you knew in high school, and they're like, "Weren't you going to be a psychologist?"

One day perhaps I will be a blogger and someone will say "Weren't you in tech and owned a business?" and I can reply, - Yes, still am ;D

It might not be perfect, but it could help you connect better.

It's great you're able to have fun outdoors with family especially in this period we find ourselves in. (Covid and its issues)

I've been indoors for months and my social life ain't looking good.

That's not great news for an introvert.

It is easing up a lot here, but the biggest issue I have found is that people have taken things overboard a fair bit.

That's not great news for an introvert.

The trick is, act an extrovert - if you are really, really introverted - you might win an Oscar :)

The trick is, act an extrovert - if you are really, really introverted - you might win an Oscar :)

Lol. That'd be great. Unfortunately I'm not much of an actor.

I do try my best to be social when I have to.

It is easing up a lot here, but the biggest issue I have found is that people have taken things overboard a fair bit.

That's life. People always find a way to take advantage of everything.

I've actually taken advantage of the Covid situation in a way.

Since I'm at home and don't have the stress of school, I've been able to reignite my creativity.

After years of taking a break I've returned to writing and art.

Covid Lockdown + Hive = Maximum Creativity

Covid Lockdown + Hive = Maximum Creativity

Just make sure that post lockdown, maximum creativity is the new normal. =)

It will be.

I'm done slacking on art. I'm gonna be steady now.

Creation is one of the most enjoyable things there is - have fun.

I think @dswigle will know what I am talking about here.

So many of us spend our young lives casting around and ending up in jobs that we chose that are wrong for us.
A good chef makes a choice to become an avarage salesman and he hates his job, but he doesn't know that he is a good chef. Then one day, years later, he makes the discovery that he is a good chef.
So it is with many of us.

Once he made the discovery, a little passion light was kindled in him and as he made progress, the passion started to grow so much that he became famous!

Note that I have not mentioned emotions here.

It is this "disposable life" that you speak of coupled to errant quich fix emotions that stand in the way of true and lasting passion. Emotions are not coupled to logical reasoning, as it is all on the spur of the moment stuff.
And so many lives are bitter.

My own little flame of passion was only lit at the age of 40. Before that I also bobbed about on the sea of life.
I discovered that I care. Once the discovery was made, I decided to test it out and I enlisted as a volunteer at two NGO's. Now being a down the line kind of guy, the first NGO did some things that I did not approve of and the second was even worse. But unbeknown by me, it was my taining to start The Papillon Foundation so long ago.

Pssion was aflame as it still is today and I only wish I had known about it earlier in my life!

A good chef makes a choice to become an avarage salesman and he hates his job, but he doesn't know that he is a good chef. Then one day, years later, he makes the discovery that he is a good chef.

He is lucky he made the discovery eventually, most don't, or when they do, assume it is too late to act on, too much risk, too much of a salary cut.

Pssion was aflame as it still is today and I only wish I had known about it earlier in my life!

I think it is the "try many things" that leads to it and perhaps, a young you/us can't comprehend what passion really is when it is present.

That is exactly the problem. We become established in our lifestyles, doing what we hate to do for the sake of money. So well do I remember the bitterness of my ex father in law that stayed at the same company all of his sad life. No friends and a solitary foul mouthed old soul that eventually died in his bitterness.

I like to see people happy and smiling, regardless of their conditions, or situations and if I can do something about creating a bit of that happiness then I make myself happy. Simple and sweet!

No friends and a solitary foul mouthed old soul that eventually died in his bitterness.

I have the feeling a lot of the younger generation will live this life unless they start waking up to the disconnection they are participating in.

Yeah right and it will get worse over time by the looks of things.
I see here that as the old folks die off, the tennis courts and club houses are starting to empty. Once lively places are standing silent and forlorn!

Hi, Zak! @papillioncharity

I have to admit that part of who you are now is where you came from and the events that shaped it. I actually do not think you would have been as effective or ready for the amazing things you do now.

!tip .50

Greetings Lady Denise, I thought to tag you because you know how difficult it is for charities to survive over here.

Now during the covid restrictions many more charities are shutting their doors, but we are used to sacrifices and determined to keep on going.

The thing that hurts is that we had to cut back drastically and the people out there are suffering, but hopefully things will improve.

Life has a way of training each of us for our actual purposes and so sad that many never find their true purposes.

But like I always say, we do what we can with what we have.

Yhank you for your kind generosity Lady @dswigle

Thank you kindly dear Lady @dswigle

love what you do and you'll never work a day

I discovered this late in choosing my career. Well , i decided to make it a passion.

Passion makes doing something hard look so fun. You tend not to feel anything as all you can feel is excitement.

For many skilled professional, hard is fun - the harder the better.

Finding passion is hard work.

In this sentence there is an enormous meaning for almost all people. Passion is the force that moves positive energies, but also negative ones, the balance, however, is useful for a good performance of things.

The drive of passion doesn't really care if the activity is good or bad and I guess that if one is true to themselves, they will follow the passion regardless. It can cause a lot of suffering in the world.

If you take a man from border-line passions to madness, of course, such as Hitler, but if we consider the net of everything, I believe that beneficial passions win over evil.

I believe that beneficial passions win over evil.

For sure and I think some of those evils might contribute in driving some of that good too. society rarely changes until we are in enough pain.

Yes I agree if we understand passion as a persistent feeling it can lead to good deeds, beyond the religious one, but referring to society.

You're so right.

perhaps.

Love the jumping pic of small, got a few similar "in flight" photos from when my kids were that age XD the one of your wife on the daybed is an awesome portrait too, should totally print and frame that.

Commitment is largely dead in the new world generations as they live the disposable life, with a buy and discard attitude to everything

You need to meet the upper level kids at our gym. Or perhaps your local equivalent might be easier XD

the investment on the work side has to be done before the passion arrives

I don't understand how this works, but then again I found mine pretty early (I think I was 8 or 9 maybe, all I remember is being small when I started drawing my first comics) even though I didn't end up giving it the attention I really should have when I found it, because I was always told in no uncertain terms that it was impossible to make a living off it and I was never to bother even considering that as a viable option at any stage ever and that I was to do a "real" job and so I ended up doing this stupid shity

Choosing what will make us money might not be a bad move early on

instead and while I don't fully regret it because at least I got to figure out that I was capable of running a business, that I have completely the wrong mindset for running a business and that I absolutely loathe running a business. And also learned a lot of fun webdev tricks which I may or may not have picked up just managing my own things. But there are still many times that I wish I'd just ploughed headlong into the project instead of "wasting time" on the business as had I done that I'd definitely be a hell of a lot further along with it than I am.

I agree with the work part. Without effort and perseverance nothing will happen. Passion and love won't just jump in one's lap just because they want it.

I think it is best to keep an open mind and always work on yourself

Love the jumping pic.
