Playing around in photoshop - adding Bokeh
I guess this is another post in my playing /bored at home series, but this time yesterday I decided now is a good time to try to learn more of the features in photoshop, and I have bookmarked a few tutorials to watch and learn and for yesterday ist was a tutorial on how to add a Bokeh effect to an image, and I will share a couple of examples
Update What is bokeh
I realized after a few comments that I should have explained what is Bokeh so her is a definition of it
Bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light".

The tutorial I watched is this one which was quite easy to follow
this next shot is the original unedited photo off the camera.

I enjoyed doing the tutorial and trying it out with these two photos, I prefer getting the bokeh when I take the photo, so I don't think that is something I will do to often if at all, but in the process of doing this I did learn a few features I was unaware of and may be able to use them in regular photo editing from now on in so it was a good use of a bit of time and fun learning new things, Photoshop is so powerful I am sure I am barely scratching the surface of all it can do just using some of the basic features.
But maybe if I do a tutorial every day or two I will learn a lot over this time stuck at home.
Her is another edit I did adding the fake Bokeh, I think I prefer this one as it seems a more realistic looking bokeh than the first one

and here is the same photo without the edit

And that’s all folks

Wow! I learnt something new today, lol - didn't know you can add bokeh after you've taken the shot! :D
Now I know... Btw, cool shots! Even without the bokeh... :)
Ohh yeah it was new for me as well, I prefer doing in camera, but handy to now know how to do it if I ever need to
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍

Wow, that second last image is cool.
I was messing around with my macro lens today in the back yard...I didn't get anything worth showing...The world isn't ready for my terrible macro shots yet...Maybe one day.
Thanks for the feedback the second one was the one I was most happy with
With me with macro shots I find I get os many bad shots compared to the few good ones lOL
Yes, many bad shots was what I got today...No good ones...I got close though. I'll get there.
Thats the key to keep trying, its all about having fun, and for me, I think I learn more when I go out and get bad shots, it makes me want to know why and work out how to do better LOL
Yep, thats a good way to look at it. Failure in life has taught me more than success. The same principle works in photography I guess...And most things.
I think so , cheers and have a great day
pretty cool and quite simple "dreamy" effect. worth to know
Thanks was fun to try something different
Interesting art form changing background gently, focusing on one element in photograph. I tend to agree your second manipulation looks more natural.
Thanks I was most happy with the second one I found it more natural but used the first one to highlight the effect
I hope your day is going well
All this pictures are so beautiful. I love this flowers
Thanks was fun to try something new
Have a great day
Nice edits. It helps when you are starting with excellent source material! I have tried some of the photoshop tutorials and even with the step by step a lot of them are still over my head. You did a great job!
Thanks and I have had the same experience some tutorials you need to know a lot more than I do, to be able to follow them,I found this one easy to follow and looking forward to trying to learn some more
The editions have been very good!
Today's editors allow you to make truly amazing edits!
Have a great day!
Thanks it was fun try something different and learn new things
The photos are great with and without the photoshop!!
Thanks kindly your support is appreciated
Have a great day
If you didn't tell it nobody might have noticed it ;)
This effect looks good and this turorial video is certainly something I'll try and keep in my mind.
But I tell you something: the photos look very good even without the fake bokeh 😊
!tip
Thanks these ones I never edited as I want so happy with them, its not an effect I would do often I prefer getting a real bokeh with the camera
and WOOHOO !BEER is here
Yes, I understand, I wouldn't use it too much neither, but I can imagine sometimes it could add a nice touch to have a perfect bokeh just as you want it ;)
Yes, !BEER 👍🙂
Yeah thats a good point, I did bookmark it as if in a month or so I have a shot that needs that affect I will have forgotten how to do it with or without !BEER
I think I have seen another tutorial showing this effect before, but I can't remember who that was. I have bookmarked this one though ;)
!BEER 😉
Today I will try and either take some new photos or do another tutorial or two a good way to keep myself busy
Cheers and !BEER
I am very unmotivated at the moment and the weather isn't motivating either.
So I hope that at least you will do something productive and take some photos or watch tutorials ... I think I could do the same and maybe edit some of these failed dandelion shots I've taken last week ;)
Cheers and !BEER
