Yesterday, September 8, was a special day especially for Catholics like my family. It was the birthday of Mother Mary and we oftentimes celebrate it by preparing some cake or special food on the table.
I know... it must be weird for some non-Catholics but somehow, it has become a tradition. It's like celebrating the birthday of a family member. :)
My parents were actually the ones who prepared a little something.
It was just the three of us, so we need not prepare lots of food. Papa just bought some BBQ take out and some mocha cake.
There was this story from when papa bought the cake yesterday... While he was at the cake shop to buy a mocha cake, one lady was trying to get the last box of it.
Papa asked the clerk if that was the last box of mocha cake and the clerk answered that unfortunately it was. Papa looked troubled because we wanted the mocha cake since it was less sweet than the other cakes, and I should eat very sweet things.
When the lady who bought the cake saw my papa's troubled look, she offered to let him have the cake. He was surprised and asked her if it was OK. She said yes and just ordered a bigger one where we could write some dedication.
My papa thanked her with an apologetic smile. When he was about to get out of the cakeshop, he heard the clerk asking the woman what to write on the cake. And the woman answered, "Happy Birthday Mama Mary!"
When papa told us the story, mama and I were surprised and felt thankful to the lady. She's so kind and was so mindful of others. We need more understanding and loving people!
Anyway, despite the simple preparation, we had a feast!
