In one of the most important clock collections in Europe you will find masterpieces of handicraft as well asastronomical precision instruments, pendulum clocks and sundials, rustic wall clocks from the Black Forest, precious pocket watches or the tower clockwork of St. Stephen's Cathedral from 1699 weighing several tons.

This object from 1767 is a so-called plate clock. A characteristic feature of the spring-driven wall clock is the pendulum swinging in front of the dial.
Bei diesem Exponat aus dem Jahr 1767 handelt es sich um eine sogenannte Telleruhr. Charakteristisch für die Wanduhr mit Federantrieb ist das vor dem Ziffernblatt schwingende Pendel.
The movement of this wall clock (lantern clock) dates from the 16th century, the case from the 17th century.

Among the highlights of the museum is this astronomical art clock from the 18th century. It was made by the monk David a Sancto Cajetano, who eternalized the astronomical knowledge of his time in this magnificent precision instrument.

You can also see an installation of the Alte Türmerstube, which was installed in the southern tower of St. Stephen's after the first siege by the Turks (1529). 67 metres above the ground, the tower keeper watched out for fire. In case of imminent danger, a bell was rung to warn and the direction of the fire was indicated by a red flag during the day and an illuminated lantern at night.

The Roman Museum, situated on Hoher Markt 3, presents military and civil life in Vienna during the Roman period. A focal point of the exhibition is the legion camp, which is presented on the basis of small finds, structural remains and reconstructions.

What to say? I've been reading a bit about the Roman encampment at Vindebona since I first saw your blog last night.
A travel through time, indeed!
The clocks are magnificent. In this article, and in others in which you featured globes, it is evident that there was a heightened awareness of the planets. I wonder what those clock makers and cartographers would make of CERN, and our space travels.
Another delightful article, obviously food not only for the eyes but also for the imagination.

Thanks for the interesting link to the article about the history of the Romans in Vienna. Traces of their culture can still be found in the city center. About 35 km from Vienna you can visit the remains of a roman legionary fortress in the Archaeological Park Carnuntum. While the amphitheater is still preserved, a Roman quarter was partially reconstructed and rebuilt at its original location.
The clocks are absolutely worth seeing. There is so much craftsmanship to marvel at! It's an interesting thought experiment to imagine what the watchmakers and cartographers of that time would have made having today's knowledge.

Die Uhrenmuseum gefällt mir am besten. Unsere jetzige Digitaluhren sind zwar praktisch aber sie sind meiner meinung nach nicht schön. Es geht mir nur um die Funktion, sodass ich überhaupt keinen Bedarf auf eine separate Uhr habe als die App in meinem Handy 😁.
Ich habe noch Armbanduhren irgendwo liegen, aber ich habe sie nicht mal gekauft, sie waren alle Preise von Tippspielen 😂.
Die altmodische Uhr, wie wir in diesem Museum sehen können, sind eine tolle Kunst.
Sie sehen sehr schön aus. Sie zeigen nicht nur die Zeit, sondern dienen auch als einen schicken Schmuck.
Die Uhren im Museum sind echte Kunstwerke, heute bestimmt unbezahlbar. Ich trage ab und zu eine analoge Armbanduhr, die für mich einen emotionalen Wert besitzt. Die digitalen Uhren gefallen mir auch nicht.
An meine erste Armbanduhr kann ich mich gut erinnern. Ich weiß nicht, ob du den katholischen Ritus der Firmung (confirmation) kennst. Jugendliche sollen dabei mit dem Heiligen Geist gestärkt werden. Jedenfalls war es üblich, dass der Firmling von seinem Firmpaten eine Armbanduhr geschenkt bekam. Meine hatte eine Beleuchtung, was ich total faszinierend fand und wohl zu häufig davon Gebrauch machte, sodass die Batterie schon nach einigen Tagen ihren Geist aufgab. 😂

There are many museums in Vienna, I guess more than 100. Some of them are world famous, but there are also smaller collections that specialize in particular topics and which are also worth a visit. You're right, I've been to a lot of these museums. I'll introduce some more of them.
I love museums, that's why I enjoy reading your post. I've not been to many museums but I wish to visit Louvre and other museums in Europe. They seem to have more extensive world-wide collection than museums here.

Due to lack of space, I could only show a small selection of the clocks on display, but each of them is a unique masterpiece. If you want to embark on a journey through time, then I can recommend this museum.
