Dealing With Staffs in Business ( Hiring is the first step)

in Project HOPE4 years ago

Almost all the time, I hear that employees are a company’s best asset, in some cases I admit but in other cases I just believe there some might be problematic which means more of a liability to the company than an asset. Hiring as well as dealing with the myriad of issues and troubles that arise, and letting go of the problem ones can be very time consuming as well as stressful. In other not to a company’s most important asset become the biggest problem of a company, I will be writing about how to hire and fire an employee

Before going, I need to make something clear. Not everyone one working in a company is a full employee or full staff as you may call them. There are the independent contractors/contract staffs and there are employees/full staff. The difference between this two set of workers isn’t much as they both do the same work and perform similar duties in a company.

Unlike a full staff, a contract staff isn’t much of an obligation to the employer. There is really no need for an insurance payment for a contract staff, in most cases no need for insurance compensation and no need for medicare taxes and social security payments. This is because a full employee is supposed to follow instructions and guidelines in a company while independent contractors are they are called decides when, how and where to work. In the cases of controlling how a full employee uses their time, the only thing that can be done to an independent contractor is request for result at the end of the specific time given, the employer cannot control when they do the job or how they do it but instead gets result. Not to forget, the employer can approve and disapprove the result of an independent contractor since literarily they work for the company.

Getting a large number of files and CVs from people looking to get employed can be something very enjoyable but finding the right people to work together to push the company’s vision and goal as well as dealing with customers is a very important thing for business owners. For a few people having problem with hiring employees, let me help with a simple process when employing.

First, the employer or HRM needs to understand the position available and what it entails. The employer needs to make the employee know what their duties will be in the organization, how many hours the employee will have to be available and when the employee will be leaving office. The employer need to state clearly the educational level and work experience needed to be possessed by the employee as well as the skills needed to be known by the employee. It is most advisable that these things are properly started in the employment application.

Never make mistakes of taking the interviews if you aren’t good at doing it or you do not understand the position the employee is going to be occupying, you can sit there and make final decisions. When taking the interview, determine that the interviewees are in good standing in their previous jobs, finding out why they left their previous jobs is a good start. Make sure you give very good illustrations to the interviewee to be sure if they have the company first at heart or their pay first at heart (Trust every employee cares about their pay but they should be concerned about the growth of the company as that is a growth for them as well). Never overlook the interviewee’s personalities and how well they can get along with people who will be working together. Never forget to get references in their resumes. During the interview, make sure you take note of the interviewee’s honesty, intelligence, skill, and affability, it is very important.

Hiring a good employee is a plus to a company as it becomes either a new profit center or an extra valuable hands in the duties of the company. In most cases, new good employees often cause increase in sales, morale, more assistance to clients and a positive environment while employing to wrong person could be a travesty and at such become a very big liability to the organization. I would have love to continue but for the sake of post length, I will talk about termination in my next post. Terminating the employment of a bad employee could be hot fire for an employer if it isn’t done the right way as the employee could sue for wrongful termination even when you thought you termination was legal and right.

I do believe the reason why some sophisticated companies sign contracts with their staffs when hiring them is so they can have all the right to take action when they breach the contract. I actually enjoyed reading this. Thanks a lot

Contract signing is one way to ascertain an employee's loyalty to the job but not a guarantee for good character. Questionable job ethics and characters doesn't imply questionable personalities that's where contracts do not cover.

Employment process is the only way to filter the good and the bad. In most cases practical interviews in eateries can do, since a lot of personalities can be tested by a waiter or waitress.

I never negated anything you wrote by all means I'm saying that sometimes these contracts keeps people in check. Questionable personalities too can be kept in check

You are right man... i was just trying to discuss a little on what you were saying. You know sleeping during work hours can be checked but sneezing and coughing during work hours can't be checked :)

Thanks for reading my post and giving amazing comments. I am glad you did.

I have been a victim of bad employees, they can turn a business down in less than one hour. I employed a few sales reps about a year ago and i realized sales started dropping. I was forced to ask our customers what was going on and all fingers pointed at my sales reps, then i new i had a problem.

Thanks for sharing this post. The most important part in an employment process is the interview. In most cases the interviewee always try to be in their good behaviours but as you wrote a comment

since a lot of personalities can be tested by a waiter or waitress.

Taking them outside of the business environment could bring the good, the bad and the evil in them out.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope it didn't cost you much?

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

I have a friend who works in a factory, everytime he comes home he always complains about a senior colleague who had no skill for the position he was holding and my friend was always told to do things for him and my friend couldn't say no since he was a junior staff. The day my friend got ill, they had external supervisors and there was a fault that needed to be resolved. My friend was not available and that cost the colleagues job.

I asked myself, how did he scale through the interview without being caught?

Employing a wrong or bad employee can be very bad to a company.

Thanks for the post

Employing the wrong set of people in a company is inviting problem to the company. Your friend would have felt used for long

Hi appreciated @ben-edom.

I don't know where you live. That is, your country of residence. I make this clarification because I imagine that the laws regarding Social Security are different.

Unlike a full staff, a contract staff isn't much of an obligation to the employer. There is really no need for an insurance payment for a contract staff, in most cases no need for insurance compensation and no need for medicare taxes and social security payments.

A contracted staff has all the right to quote Social Security, medical insurance and all the benefits of Law.
In my country Venezuela, there is the "Labor Law", this law guarantees workers the payment of their labor liabilities by the employer. Even if the contract is for a limited time.

I love everything related to Human Resources. In my professional work experience I have worked several years in all the areas that comprise it.

Your friend, Juan.

Actually in my country, a contract staff doesn't have a right to so many advantages. I worked as a contract staff in a multinational company i will not want to mention and i wasn't entitled to those benefits.

Where are you from?

The task of finding the right people to employ is usually a difficult one because most employees are after the salary and are not concerned with the growth of the business, that is the most important reasons why rules must be followed to the last.

Finding the right staff can be very worrisome and can be very tasking but when you find a good one, they can grow your business.

Your staff is at the heart of your small business, and treating them well should be of the utmost importance to the business

Thanks for taking time to read my post.

Certainly, hiring suitable personnel is an art, but also ending the labor relationship with the minimum amount of problems is an artte in itself. Good post, it has made me think of things that I don't usually think of many times.

Yes, proper hiring and firing of staffs with minimum problem caused can be beautiful. It shows good human relations between employers and employees.

I completely agree.
