“The Skeptical Enviromentalist". Its author, Bjorn Lomborg from Denmark, is a political scientist and university professor, defined by himself as a statistician and who does not forgive Greenpeace for having taken away his membership for four years in a row for not being able to pay his dues. In his role as an "extremist" and "resentful" critic as he is classified by ecologist and environmentalist groups, he describes the motivational activity of these organizations as "a litany" to scare the general population, exaggerating anecdotes of environmental depredation..

This reflection should not be underestimated because it alerts us to the educational and denunciation policy that prevails in these types of organizations, or at least people's perception of it. According to Lomborg's publication, the message is negative, of destruction and calamity, and is currently a nuisance for many people in the world..

The Danish professor has criticized the "bold" who prophesy the disappearance of species and other natural factors such as those used as resources for the development of society (water, fossil fuels, etc.). These prophets, says Lomborg in a display of profound knowledge of statistics, are unmasked after two or three decades with forecasts totally out of all reality and measurement, diminishing the credibility of the participants in the environmental struggle.

The new face of the message would be edifying. Instead of promoting the destruction and ruin of the soil in many parts of the world, we should tell the goodness of this factor when it is present and with evident fertility. Instead of touting the extreme paving and cementing of the landscape, we should tell how good it would be to increase protection zones accompanied by natural corridors linking these sanctuary areas..

Talking about the integral destruction of the forests due to the not very clean technology of the industrialization of wood and paper, in addition to the action of acid rain, with an imminent threat of global suffocation no longer seems to be the best approach. We must now strive to establish measures to promote and protect these ecosystems, such as the definitive establishment of corporate management control systems on the environment, for example ISO 14,000. Also the incorporation of the Oxibank, an international organization attached to the UN to charge a tax on the consumption of one of the final products of the forests as the energy element of life, oxygen, and pay the producer countries (the countries with forest areas) their proportional contribution, serving at the same time as a catalyst for the reduction of the external debt of underdeveloped countries.

It is curious that in any meeting when talking about wars, it is affirmed that the coming warlike confrontations will be over the possession and availability of drinking water. In the "Skeptical Environmentalist" its author asserts that it is almost an inducement of the campaigns in favor of natural protection, that it is a fact of the future. But its counterpart would be a matter of economy, of mathematical formulas which would reflect a substantial saving, if the budgets were directed instead of the logistics of war, to the realization of desalination plants for the huge amounts of water in the seas and oceans of the world..

In short, we environmentalists, according to the vision presented to us in this critical work, are on a mean stage before the world, with an external vision of our organizations as birds of ill omen and fear-mongers. If we do not change our messages to friendlier, more uplifting, more hopeful ways, more writers like Professor Lomborg will continue to come to our attention. This will give weapons to environmental predators and polluters who rely on the inanities of negative messaging to defend ecological integrity, unsustainable developmentalists, agile in disqualifying the opinion of environmental organizations, and agile in disqualifying the opinion of environmental organizations..

This type of environmentalists and environmentalists is what is needed to make the great masses react and lead society towards a better and more conscious world, greetings friend @eliorrios and thanks for sharing this post.

Although I am sure that some groups do exaggerate the situation to get attention, the underlying impacts of climate change can easily be seen around the world. I believe it is one of the most important struggles we will face. We need to control pollution and find sustainable ways of living. I haven't read the book though, perhaps I should, as always good to understand the perspectives of others.

hello @eliorrios ,
the problem with many environmental groups is their bias, a clear example is that while they attack the US for toxic gas emissions, they are silent on the issue of illegal mining in Venezuela, which makes us think that they are exaggerating some problems and minimizing others for their own interests.
