THE START-UP AND THE CURRENT USE CASE OF GMAIL

Almost everyone now use Gmail and in the world of mails Gmail was not the first but now it has 1.5 Billion users worldwide, Gmail launched as a free mail service just like yahoo mail and hot mail back then and yahoo was highly acceptable by 1998, yahoo mail already had 13 million active users while hot mail on the other hand had 30 million active users.

Working at google in the early 90’s provided staff with an opportunity to work on any project they choose to work on during the time of service, it was during periods like this that Paul Buchheit who was also a staff at Google came up with the idea of Gmail. Gmail was given a trial because mails were seriously been used at that time and Gmail attracted their audience by offering more storage space than other available mail services.

Gmail came out with unique features such as the search option which makes it easy for users to find a certain mail that was sent to them faster and as at that time, no other mail service was offering this service.

Another unique feature which no other mail service offered was making those messages fall into a pattern where sent messages and replies are arranged accordingly, making it all file up in a neat and undisrupted manner. Gmail was only given to users initially, google wanted to meet up with meeting customers target all the time so it only allowed customers in only through invitation but by 2007 Gmail was available for everyone.

Setting a to-do list or calendar is another unique available feature on the Gmail application, being able to sign up on other applications or website since your Gmail account is another great feature of the mail system.

According to yahoo senior officer, Gmail has seen user growth for a number of reasons, including promotion as the default email provider on android devices and familiarity driven by the use in the enterprise and education via chrome books. John Jacobson

Gmail were scanned for advertisement purpose because the company wants to monetize the system and this did not sit well with consumers who wanted to enjoy their privacy. Bridging the gap of privacy is an issue that Gmail got and that issue of privacy took Gmail ten years to get accepted, and this caused a lot of downside for the company, but things turned again when the privacy policy was reviewed and I think it is still doing pretty well.

The secret to success in a competitive market is to give excellently what your competitors could not offer. I think Gmail took the time to study, and make development. Giving awesome services and features captivated the minds of many users, plus their expansion and partnership what they know people can't do without. Ruling is just the reward of their great service. Though, other providers are doing pretty well too, but majority already have necessary features on Gmail, the account they opened because they want to use android, then why should dey look elsewhere?.

Hi @frederickbangs

Gmail certainly made a big difference with all its improvements over other emails.

My first email account was made by Yahoo.com and that amount is still there, then I created an account at Hotmail.com. But currently, the email account that I use the most is the one I have in Gmail.com
