CELOS Targets Mass Adoption

re-publication

The CELOS platform only recently came to my attention. It’s an open source project that apparently has a vibrant and growing community. There are lots of reasons why a potentially disruptive coin might fly under the radar. Of all its commits I found on GitHub, the earliest recorded was on December 5, 2019. Let me begin with an overview of how one might get started with CELOS, a project that appears brilliant on the surface and developing at light speed.

How easy does CELOS make it for someone who's never heard of crypto to own and trade coins in 2020?

  • If someone you know has a phone number, you can send them crypto.
  • They will receive a text to download a wallet like the Valora App (first release) or Celo Wallet to claim the coins you just sent.
  • Upon visiting Google Play, the Valora wallet will instruct them to save their seed phrase; as well as explain that only they can access their coins (irregardless of losing their phone).
  • They now own crypto and only need someone elses phone number to repeat the process.

CELOS, through cUSD (CELOS Dollars), is tied to the US dollar. This means that those who are new to crypto will be able to associate real value to their new coins. The app is easy to use. It's seed phrase mechanism is as straightforward as it gets. Also, it appears that CELOS is primed to expand their services.

Sending CELOS using only a phone number works across carriers and throughout the world. If the system performs as expected at larger numbers, seamless, borderless and easy-to-use crypto may have never seen a better day. While CELOS may not have all the functionality of the major coins in terms of smart contracts and extensive use cases, it does appear to have a handle on networking.

EARN A FEW CELOS

I learned about CELOS upon receiving an email from Coinbase. $6 worth of CELOS were awarded to me for watching 3 videos; each a couple of minutes long. If you decide to visit Coinbase and get your own account, it does require proof of identity. Also, note that Coinbase is designed for US citizens, and the provided link is my referral. The site advertises hundreds of dollars worth of crypto to earn and test. About half of that is for referrals and slightly less than half for answering questions about videos.

I can confirm that the site does deliver on its promise. Over the past two years I have unlocked over $50 as new coins were introduced. It's videos are easy to understand and informative for both new users and those who have not yet researched a particular coin. I was able to cash out those $6 worth of CELOS via CoinbasePro (also free to use and instantly accessible with free sign up) by converting (without a fee) them into US dollars and transferring them to PayPal (also without a fee).

MORE ABOUT CELOS

There are other ways for US citizens to use crypto besides going through all the hoops (and centralization) required by Coinbase. CELOS will likely be a leader in this regard since it’s tied to the US dollar and appears to have a really good grasp of how to leverage mobile phone technology.

CELOS focuses its efforts on building a vibrant community and encouraging new projects ideas. Both are elements that have proven to be integral to the success of blockchain projects. Communities are important because P2P transactions inherently differ from fiat-based systems. P2P transactions are intimate and directly affect change. Similarly, new project ideas support ongoing development at CELOS. In a blockchain industry that is far from a complete system, the ability to adapt and grow with innovation is crucial.

FOR HUMANITY

CELOS is designed to be user friendly. The goal of the platform is to make crypto easily accessible to the world via mobile devices. It is an honorable and much needed solution that humanity needs ASAP. CELOS brings amazing hope for meaningful action in a world thrust into a pandemic.
