Human body and the Ship of Theseus paradox/El cuerpo humano y la paradoja del barco de Teseo

According to Greek legend Theseus returned from Crete on his ship after having defeated the famous Minotaur and the Athenians kept the ship for centuries, replacing the damaged parts with new ones, over the years the Greek philosophers considered the paradox of whether the Theseus' ship remains the same after all the parts have been replaced.

This paradox is applicable to the same extent if we refer to the human body in which most of the cells that form it regenerate several times in the span of a human life, with the exception of female sex cells and neurons according to the majority of the authors, although not all agree.

The cells that last the least are those of the intestine that are completely renewed after a duration of between 2 and 4 days as well as the cells of the immune system that last between 2 and 10 days, followed by the lung cells that regenerate approximately every 8 days and skin cells that last between 10 and 30 days.

Red blood cells, blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body, are renewed every 4 months while those of the liver last between 6 and 12 months, the cells that make up bones and muscles are the longest-lived and take time to renew 10 and 15 years respectively.

In short, after 15 years all the cells in our body have changed, some of them repeatedly, if we take into account a life expectancy of about 75 years, it turns out that we have changed all our components 5 times, so we can not say that we are the same person as 15, 30 or 45 years ago.

In the same way that the Greeks philosophized with the paradox of the Perseus ship and if it was still the same ship that left for Crete, if our body is also totally renewed every so often, what then does the identity of a being that changes continuously over time consist of? . Think about it.

This is profoundly meaningful. To think about biological and mental renewal in this way opens new modes of thinking. One question for me is what part of our physiology retains the memories and scars of our past? Why do they retain these scars? Why are they not renewed to a more pristine state.

All living beings are constantly evolving, at a biological and cellular level, renewing themselves to adapt to the new conditions of their body, however, as you name it, the brain, which is something like the CPU of the body, keeps the rest in order. Logically no living being is the same when it is born and when it dies, but they are natural processes and are not placed by third parties, so there is a big difference with the paradox you mention. @tipu curate 2

And when you eat an apple, when do you start to be the apple you are eating?

That's another question man, in principle we all animals and plants are made with the same 20 blocks or amino acids so we are (all + nothing) / 2. ;-)

very profound thought dear @mauromar
to add to the discussion if I see this from the point of science the DNA of the human body remains the same.
If I look from another perspective then I could say the body is only the vehicle for the soul which remains unchanged. That is if you believe in existence of consciousness beyond the body.
Drawing parallels to the ship if I want to be on the side that believes the ship has been preserved. I could present a point that the replacement parts have been replicas of the original ones and conform to the blue print or design of the original ship.
I guess it is all about the point of view and from where you look at things.
