In 1895, as the last wish of the Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite, the prizes bearing his name were established and awarded to the most outstanding people in certain disciplines, the first Nobel prizes were awarded in 1901 to the categories Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Peace.

Almost 100 years later, in contrast to the Nobel prizes and representing a parody of them, the Ig Nobel prizes were created, which are awarded every year to 10 groups of scientists whose discoveries "first make you laugh and then make you think."

The awards are organized by the scientific humor magazine Annals of Improbable Research (AIR), they were awarded for the first time in 1991 and in addition to the disciplines awarded in the Nobel prizes, others such as engineering, biology, public health and interdisciplinary research are included.

The ceremony is equally dignified and elegant, it is held at the Sanders Theater of Harvard University and it is attended by real Nobel prizes for the delivery of the prizes to the winners of each discipline.

Physics: Patricia Yang, Alexander Lee, Miles Chan, Alynn Martin, Ashley Edwards, Scott Carver, and David Hu, for studying how and why wombats defecate in the form of cubes.

This month the awards have already been given to the 10 lucky scientists and these are some examples:
Acoustics: Stephan Reber, Takeshi Nishimura, Judith Janisch, Mark Robertson, and Tecumseh Fitch for making a female Chinese alligator bellow in an airtight chamber filled with helium-enriched air.
Entomology: Richard Vette, for collecting evidence that many entomologists (scientists who study insects) are afraid of spiders, which are not insects.
