Steem Protection Soft Fork 0.22.2 - Right or Wrong?

The Fuck

Ever since the Tron company acquisited steemit.inc and gained full control over around 80 million steem, the community started to be overwhelmed with all the informations (read fears) and possible risks in regards to security and sovereignty of our blockchain.

Given the fact that Tron is well known for operating in highly centralized manner, the witnesses have came to a consenzus in which the governance rights from all steemit accounts are to be frozen.

But, it is of hight importance to emphasize that such actions are not intended to disable tron from acting per se, rather to prevent possible attempts of takeover with premined stake. Ninja-mined stake should have been used for development and onboarding purposes, but instead ended up serving individuals on the back of real investors and community participants.

Such actions ruined the reputation of steem as an investment (not in terms of blockchain properties) that lead majority to believe in its centralization and ponzie scheme tendencies.

Since the general premise of DPoS governance is the more one invests the more involved and benevolent(platform-wise) he becomes, I gave myself right to assume that specific presumption can only be applied to those who actually bought the stake, as opposed to premined one. It is reasonable to assume that investors will do their best in order to increase the value of the platfrom as a whole, thus indirectly enjoy the benefits of prosperity as outcome of their actions.

So basically we might call it the greed principle as we are counting on people wanting more and more, pushing the price and utiliy further. This approach might sound somehow irrational, but is it?

PROS:

  • Ninja mined stake won't be effecting our decentralized governance.

  • Until we get more clarity about how this will affect both communities and to what extent, the things will remain status quo

  • The community along with the witnesses have shown not to be fucking around.

  • DPoS governance is being tested as we speak and i see nothing wrong about.

CONS

  • The outside world could easily consider this move as an attempt to disqualify anyone who buys big. Regardless of it not being truth, people tend to swollow that shit twitter announcements and accept them as relevant.
  • We weren't consulted with, which i find a bit disrispectufull. But, in such situations the decision needs to be fast and consulting with unorganized masses with million different approaches wouldn't be as fast, buying time to potential malicious actors to act.

Justin Sun published an article in which he invited all top witnesses to gather around the table and discuss the future of how those systems will coexist and to what extent. This is major opportunity and i truly hope you boyz will show an interest, otherwise its pointless.

I will stay reserved in terms of taking sides since i actually agree with both of them, regardless of them being opposite. However, in case we reach a reasonable agreement with Justin, this must be removed and tron enabled to influence with their stake for things they find more valuable.

Stay connected.

Sort:

I feel like everyone is jumping to conclusions with this and now moves have been made by witnesses that may come off as combative rather than protective.

I know people are worried but we shouldve waited a lil while to see how this was going to play out before making such an offensive move. This may have pissed off someone who had nothing but good intentions, and why? Because the last owner os steemit sucked so we are taking out our hatred on the new owner who may actually care more? That sounds stupid to me.

Plus the witnesses made a decision without any steemians getting a say.. Now we may all be at battle cuz of their actions.. I am honestly more scared now (after softfork) than when tron aquired steemit last week. LoL..

I am glad justin sun seems to be remaining cool and collective thru all of this. I am excited for the witness chat and some more clarification on whats going on. But truth of it is steemit technology is a fucking gold mine at tyese prices and i dont think justin sun wants to fuck that up..

So why dont we just give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves to us he cant be trusted...

Thats my 2 cents worth at least 😉

I felt a bit dissrespected as well, but they had to act quickly. I don't support such practice in general, however its ninjamined stake sold otc to a company which recently voted in support to some projects, regardles of previous promises on not utilizing the stake of mentioned account. Accordingly, we could expect to the the same with steem.

Thanks for the comment though, appreciate it.

I am on the fence about it. In some ways it is a good thing but many ways it is not.

Witnesses now have the ability to soft fork and high stake account they want not moving funds. Thia soft fork takes away on the decentralized part of steem.

Nah, i don't think thats the case, the only reason why they decided to do so is due to a pre mined steem. Allowing it to influence our network might be fatal, therefore until the consensus is teached it wont affect current decentralized governance.
But i do get what you talk about, and i would feel the same way in case witnesses havent explained on why exactly they did it

Dear @ocupation

Thank you for choosing to post within project.hope HIVE/community. I was wondering if there is any way to DM you as I would like to explain little bit about our community goals and structure.

Do you use telegram or discord? If you do then join our server and give me a shout. I would gladly share with you goals of our community and explain our project.hope economy.

Like you mentioned, we should not be fast in taking sides as we can only hope that the best happens to our dear steem.

Dpos is being tested as we speak, hopefully this wont cought an eye of the masses put there haha.
Im still bullish

I must give my opinion, even if it sounds very radical or maybe a little crazy.

It would be very naive to think that this sale of Steemit.Inc happened suddenly.
We must really think that the witnesses were surprised with this sale and that they never thought that the buyer could take such actions?

Ninja-mined stake should have been used for development and onboarding purposes, but instead ended up serving individuals on the back of real investors and community participants.

This was not predictable for witnesses? I do not believe it.

It was Ned who sold.

Why were no previous actions taken to create an "armor" to the ecosystem?

Now witnesses come to the rescue (sarcasm).

You know what? This seems to me a kidnapping. Where we are the hostages and the witnesses are going to extort to obtain the greatest benefit for them. After all, it is they who can lose the most if the witness system is modified.

We will be a card that will change hands, depending on whether the requirements are met.

Sorry...

Actually, POS and DPoS as opposed to PoW have already minted majority of the tokens and if there's no inflation the only way for one to earn is via transactions fees. Thats why there is Initial Coin offering, where the firm which build the blockchain is actually selling (decentralizing) stake towards those who wanna buy. We all know for such events as evey proof of stake coin is utilizing such practice. Meaning that there will always be someone in charge of massive stake. However there are projects who stayed true towards what they said in the first place, and those can be seen on top of crypto industry.

But i do understand your concernes which are quite legitimate. However, we are building something new, and it is hard to keep the track of every malicious possibility that could happen in the future. As i mentioned in the post, im neither fan of frozing their accounts, neither am i in favour to be dictated by someone who doesnt know the difference between steem, steemit.com or steemit. inc.

Thanks for your time :D
