Creating Mini Goals To Supplement Your Big Goals

in Project HOPE3 years ago

Sometimes, people normally get discouraged when their goals take longer time to be actualized and the major cause of this is when the goal is too big. It is not the same time it takes for maize plant to mature that it will take a palm tree to mature. However, when a farmer plants a palm tree, he will need to plant some food crops in-between to sustain him till the palm tree matures. In the same way, you need to set complementary goals to keep you motivated to stay on the course for your big dreams.

It is true that dreaming big is a very good and welcomed thing but you have to understand that some of them will not be actualized immediately, some will take a while. In the interim, you need to do something while you still work on achieving the bigger goal. This is not an act of shifting focus from your big goals but a way of keeping yourself motivated. As you achieve the smaller goals and celebrate them, it will release within you the energy to keep giving a shot at the bigger dreams.

Someone may dream of becoming a world-class footballer, instead of waiting to get the attention of a major league side, he can attach himself to a local league; maybe a village league and as he gets there, it will move him closer to achieving his bigger dreams. You see, his own mini dream is to get accepted into the local league which will be easier to get, and then he will keep working towards the bigger one.

Sometimes, the mini dreams can come from parts of the bigger dreams. For example; you can break your bigger dream into segments and pursue them one after the other. The idea here is to increase both your effectiveness and your efficiency, and of course to save yourself from discouragement. Setting an insane goal for yourself within an unimaginable timeframe will only turn your dreams into "mission impossible".

You have to first understand that your abilities are not omnipotent and as such, you have to set goals that are realistic. If your first step is met with discouragement, the other steps may be affected. Sometimes, you will need to start from where you are and with small steps, then you will have bigger steps as you go. This is why you start your car from gear 1 before ascending into other gears.

In the pursuit of your bigger dreams, you need to stay motivated. This is why mini goals are highly encouraged. When you achieve one, the joy from celebrating it will provide you with the zeal to pursue the second mini goal and on and on until you are face-to-face with the big dream.

Hi @samminator
This point you highlight is very important, we all have great goals, which we could see frustrated or distant if we want to do them all at once, and not in parts. Logic says that it is best to go little by little, step by step, to also be able to enjoy the process, and get to know it much better.

I like what you said here, going step by step will make the process to be enjoyed and will make the goal to be easily achieved.
Thanks a lot for the comment buddy

Hello @samminator
Mini targets, excellent point!
And constant motivation definitely with both you can get on track for whatever you set out to do.
Excellent reading.
Best regards.

Thanks a lot Janet. Yeah, with the motivation from completing your mini target, you can move over comfortably to the main target

This is a nice post I must say. When it comes to life, goals are very essential. A man without a goal is without a vision. Things are really getting difficult day in day out, it is now left for you to position yourself. You can only enjoy this if you have goals set up.

I agree with you here, goals are very important but one needs motivations to go through their goals and this motivation can come from mini goals. Thanks buddy

We always need to dreaming big so we can expect something big. Today we are using many technology products those were not available in the old time. So the person who had the illusion, he created this technology product and made illusion into reality. Great post my friend.

That right; we need to have dreams that are big enough to spur us to actions but we must also draw motivations from other mini dream, so as not to develop a "cold feet" towards our dreams. Thanks buddy

Hello friend, excellent publication, I agree our big goals should be divided into small objectives, we can not expect to accomplish everything overnight, we must work every day to get to where we want to be. Many people abandon their goals because they think they will not achieve them, but I think it's more about not knowing how to plan and think in the short, medium or long term. Thanks for sharing it, greetings!

That's right. When we divide the big goals into smaller segments, we will find out that it will be quite easier to accomplish them.
Thank a lot friend

Greetings friend @samminator.
As usual in a pleasure to read every article you write, you are absolutely right my friend when you express the following:

Sometimes, people usually get discouraged when their goals take longer to be realized and the main cause of this is when the goal is too big.
This often happens to any of us, however, you share excellent reflections that allow us a proper understanding of the issue raised, and value the importance of setting mini-objectives when we set big goals, I think that in this way we will focus in a better way and with greater interest.

Thank you for continuing to share articles like these with all of us. Best wishes.

I am really glad and honoured that you found the post worth reading. Thanks a lot for your continuous support buddy
