The only one that has the clearest picture of where you are going to is you and as such, you are the only one that knows if you are making progress or just wasting time. Do not allow the standards and the opinions of people to make you to lose focus of where you are going to. You will be surprised that some of these opinions are not honest opinions but they are borne out of their fear for you or just plain jealousy.
You do not need anyone's approval to become successful. This is why you should quit giving too much attention to the people trying to belittle your efforts and those that never see positivity in you. Trust me, their attention does not matter to your success, so do not bother about given them the attention. The idea is not to earn their attention but to earn their respect - which flows naturally when you hit your success.
If you crave for people's attention, you may be disappointed when they ignore you, but when you work extensively on yourself and become successful, you will earn their respect. Of course, any day and anytime, success will always command respect. So ask yourself if you would like to have someone's attention or to earn their respect. The later comes with success and that is the idea.
There are some people that, if you share your ideas with them, it will die naturally because of the discouragement that will come from them. As a matter of fact, explanation does not matter most, what matters is when you start to put in the actions, the actions will speak on your behalf in clear and understandable terms.
That someone did something and succeeded with their own format does not mean that is the same format you have to follow. Remember; people differ, situations differ, challenges differ, conditions differ, so what worked for them may lose relevance when it comes to your own condition.
Your reality comes when you follow after your own dreams. Always have it in mind that you are not competing to beat someone else's destiny but to unleash your own. When you focus on your own, you will not have reasons to be distracted. However, if you start giving heed to every opinion that passes by, you will lose focus.

For every age there is a stage, just a pity we don't start thinking about ourselves and direction at a much younger age than we realize later. Hindsight always 50/50.
