Yes.. I did it.. after I got another push from a fellow steemian I finally voted for 30 old witnesses using steemworld...
But I have to admit, that this was a close call.
As you all know I wrote a post 14 days ago about the necessity (after JS steemit acquisition) to vote for witnesses to exactly avert such actions that just have happened 48h ago.. and asked some witnesses to make a short statement what their "program" is, what they stand for and how they will interact with JS.
The response was appalling.. 0! nothing!
so this says a lot how witnesses care about me personally and maybe also about other steemians of my weight and they also did not ask us little minnows or dolphins before they went to war.. just after they took a bloody nose they are asking for help...
It might very well be that they did their actions in our very best interest (or in their very best interest what happens to be by chance also good for us)... but I can not say for sure..
atm they are cut off from witness rewards and subsequently put some of their furthermore services to the community on hold... which leads to the funny result that autovoting is down and people start to upvote content by hand...
what I can say however are two things:
1.) using the exchanges in the way JS did is an amazingly rude practice in regards to any corporate governance and custody principle and might be seen as criminal action by some authorities, especially on the level of the exchanges and this was not to rescue the steem BC but only to rescue his very own steemit.org stake
2.) The fact that @vandenberg and other steemit key employees resigned is very very concerning

so which are the ones supporting JS and which are the old "free" witnesses?
Look at version.. everyone running 0.22.5 is a JS account... everyone running something else is a "independent" witness
and if it is only for the good of witnesses having some leverage when meeting JS this week...
so I voted for the old witnesses hoping for a good outcome for steem and hoping not to get subsequently screwed over...
I totally agree with you that it is time to take sides. The HF that Justin has planned will put Power Down to 1-3 days. This will totally screw content creation. The same stake could actually vote several times a same post. This might break the blockchain as we know it. It lights of this, I want to vote for the witnesses that ensured the steem that I liked so far to work properly.
I've used all my 30 votes from all my accounts. Hope everybody does the same. Remember that steemit has lost long standing employees today who actually knew how the blockchain works. Does anybody at steemit / tron know how steem works?
In the organizational work environment, there is a premise that involves a lot of reality:

Although it sounds unpleasant right now, this is an absolute reality. We are all replaceable.
Certainly, "nobody is indispensable" is something that I have heard other times, in addition to that they usually accompany it when they refer to codes with "if they do not know how a code works, they can always study it or decide to write a new code that does what it is needs to"

Again... JS 20 witnesses are NOT witnesses... they are fake accounts which were created for deliberated move to control the chain. A witness has to have a certain level of conditions and preparations to be worth to be called that. Not just set up a node and activate the block production.

It's sad that I too just voted on few witnesses only because I consider it "lesser evil". Somehow (with few exceptions) old witnesses didn't ever seem to care about supporting people from outside of their own group.
I think that having just few old witnesses within top20 and remaining witnesses being under control of opposite team may be healthy. Old witnesses proved many times to ignore us (small users) - and I believe that partly it was happening because they didn't need to care about us. Now hopefully it will change.

I perfectly understand your thinking - but for now I think there is no other solution. There is reports that the TRON team is working on a new code that would finally lead to decentralization - this can only be stopped if there are independent witnesses that stop this. We might be running out of time.
That is already blocked... (the code being able to be updated) because the top20 has already more than 4 witnesses there. Hence governance and consensus agreement needs to take place before forking updates can coexist harmoniously.
I know - we as a community made this happen. But we should not stop now! I suspect that Steemit Inc has more funds lying at exchanges, which they could use to gain power up - I just hope that they are frozen due to the power up of the exchanges ;-)
About the money on the exchanges (from Steemit.com), I doubt it... at least to the point of making a difference... but hey, I don't know everything.
Hi @rondras, I wonder if this conflict will escalate now. Obviously witnesses and justin exchanged few heavy blows. Now let's see if witnesses will decide to bring this fight on another level or will they try to use leverage to "talk" with Justin.

I can only hope this turns out in the right direction, but I also feel the witnesses would have gotten vote from steemit users without much convinction if only they have given more to those of us regarded to be at the 'low side of steemit'.
Hopefully you are also confused about which witnesses you are calling up. The previous top 20 fake witnesses Justin team deployed are not entitled by the community "witness" definition because the sole intent of those were to regain control of the funds from steemit inc.
They (Justin team and 20 fake accounts to claim witness role) did not want to do ANY work of a real witness. Hence to discuss any intention from those acts, is meanness.

Hey, about your exposure... if you referring to ALL witness (and not the ones from Justin),
it is always painful to not be seen. But at the same time, you can't expect witness to basically answer everyone in the community. Its not possible... they have a life too right?
But if you were refering to JS 20 witness...
There's not even conversation for those accounts. All fake witnesses with no intention to do ANY governance (said by Justin on the open meeting yesterday/2days ago).

In this comment you can't really generalize... if you were referring to the 20 JS fake witnesses. I know not everyone might have the skills or know how to evaluate what is a witness or not... and other things within the governance arena, but I think you should edit your post if you were ONLY refering to the 20 fake witnesses.
Otherwise, if you where not...
I would suggest you to work out why you are not getting the exposure you wished for. Maybe sometimes the solution is closer to us than we expect. I have learned with life that!
I would recommend you get into the discord channels and dig in some "personalized" exposure. Or if you all up into the blogging of STEEM, get to some witnesses and link up your intentions. Sometimes starting a discussion just needs 1 word... Hi!
