[English] My experience recording in a professional recording studio:
About 8 months ago with the trio that I integrate we decided to record an EP of 6 songs of our own, we recorded it in a professional recording studio, like those that appear in the movies.
It was a strange experience, it was the first time I recorded with an operator on the other side, the first time I was going to do something professional with my own songs and those of my friends, there were a lot of devices of which I did not know the use they had. The first thing they made us do was ask us the name of the trio and what song we were going to record first, logically they made us play the song we were going to record, but it was to detect at what tempo it was going, that was another new thing for me, I had never played with a metronome, much less recorded with one.
The next thing was to record a reference, one sang and the other did the guitar base from the other side, I still don't know how the microphones were connected, since I couldn't see any sound board, it was an old-fashioned studio. While recording the guitars I listened to the metronome, we had to be attentive to the signals of the person recording us, we recorded all the tracks separately, first the guitars, then the bass and finally the vocals, everything had to come out as good as possible, so there were times when we repeated the takes until they came out.
It was a nice experience, but it's definitely not something I love to do, there is a lot of pressure that everything has to come out right, it's a lot of hours of work for a few minutes of song, but the result of so much work is very nice. Besides all the work that goes into the recording itself, it is also a complicated task to coordinate schedules with the musicians and the studio, which delays the process more and more.
That's on the recording side, besides that, in another studio we did the mixing and mastering of the songs, we are still working a little on that but I think that in a few months the EP will see the light, the mastering process is also very laborious, you have to convey to the producer the ideas, what we would like, what we want, etc.. You have to be present at the moment he is working, listen again and again and again and again and again to see if we notice mistakes or if we want to add or remove something, if we want something to sound more than something else, among thousands of other things that are done in that process, for 5 songs it took us a long time (the EP has 6 because we already had one recorded in advance).
Something very nice about mastering is that little by little we see how it transforms from something raw to a full song, that's the nice thing and the pleasure of being in the whole process of recording, mixing and mastering.
That was my experience recording in a professional studio for the first time, without a doubt it felt great and when we release the EP it will feel even better to have gone through all that work, I hope you liked it or that this experience was useful for you, without a doubt I recommend it and I would do it again many times, mainly because I have a lot of music to record and show to the world, and secondly because it is also very nice to see the process of the birth of a song until it is completely finished, anyway, if you are interested in music like me I inform you that every now and then I publish posts about music from Argentina, you can go and take a look if you feel like it.
[Spanish] Mi experiencia grabando en un estudio de grabación profesional:
Hace aproximadamente 8 meses con el trío que integro decidimos grabar un EP de 6 canciones propias, lo grabamos en un estudio profesional de grabación, como esos que salen en las películas.
Fue una experiencia extraña, era la primera vez que grababa con un operador del otro lado, la primera vez que iba a hacer algo profesional con mis propias canciones y las de mis amigos, habían un montón de dispositivos de los cuales desconocía el uso que tenían. Lo primero que nos hicieron hacer fue preguntarnos el nombre del trío y qué canción íbamos a grabar primero, lógicamente nos hicieron tocar la canción que íbamos a grabar, pero era para detectar a que tempo iba, esa fue otra cosa nueva para mí, nunca había tocado con metrónomo, mucho menos grabado con uno.
Lo siguiente fue grabar una referencia, uno cantaba y el otro hacía la base de la guitarra desde el otro lado, yo seguía y sigo sin saber como se conectaban los micrófonos, ya que no veía ninguna placa de sonido, era un estudio chapado a la antigua. Mientras grababa las guitarras escuchaba el metrónomo, había que estar atentos a las señales del que nos grababa, grabábamos todas las pistas por separado, primero las guitarras, luego el bajo y finalmente las voces, tenía que salir todo lo mejor posible, así que había veces en las que repetíamos las tomas hasta que salían.
Fue una experiencia linda, pero definitivamente no es algo que me fascine hacer, hay mucha presión de que todo tiene que salir bien, son muchas horas de trabajo para pocos minutos de canción, pero el resultado de tanto trabajo es muy lindo. Además de todo el trabajo que es la grabación en sí también es una labor complicada coordinar horarios con los músicos y con el estudio, lo que atrasa cada vez más el proceso.
Eso por el lado de la grabación, además de eso, en otro estudio hicimos la mezcla y la masterización de las canciones, aún estamos trabajando un poco en eso pero creo que en unos meses el EP va a poder ver la luz, el proceso de masterización también es muy laborioso, hay que transmitirle al productor las ideas, lo que nos gustaría, lo que queremos, etc. Hay que estar presente en el momento en el que trabaja, escuchar una y otra y otra y otra vez las canciones para ver si notamos errores o si les queremos agregar o quitar algo, si queremos que algo suene más que otra cosa, entre miles de cosas más que se hacen en ese proceso, para 5 canciones tardamos muchísimo tiempo (el EP tiene 6 porque ya teníamos una grabada con antelación).
Algo muy lindo de la masterización es que poco a poco vamos viendo como se transforma desde algo crudo a una canción hecha y derecha, eso es lo lindo y lo placentero de estar en todo el proceso de grabación, mezcla y masterización.
Esa fué mi experiencia grabando en un estudio profesional por primera vez, sin dudas se sintió muy bien y cuando saquemos el EP se sentirá aún mejor haber pasado por todo ese trabajo, espero que les haya gustado o les sirva para algo esta experiencia, sin dudas lo recomiendo y lo volvería a hacer muchísimas veces, principalmente porque tengo mucha música para grabar y mostrarle al mundo, y en segunda instancia porque también es muy lindo ver el proceso del nacimiento de una canción hasta que está completamente finalizada, en fin, si les interesa la música como a mí les informo que cada tanto publico posts sobre música de Argentina, pueden ir a echarles un ojo si les apetece.

Must be a great experience! I have yet to get our band to a studio and I just do all my solo stuff at home and then have it mastered for me.
