Grocery List - Smart spending tip # 2

in Sindhi3 years ago

Research shows you can save as much as 25% if you stock-pile groceries instead of buying them every week. Buying in bulk and then storing them in a way that you can reuse them is the most efficient way of saving money on your everyday groceries.

As mentioned in my previous post in Impulsive Spending - Smart spending tip # 1

The average cost of food per month for one person ranges somewhere between $150 to $300, depending on age and size of household. For some, it's around $600, for others it's well under $200. However, these national averages vary based on where you live and the quality of your food purchases.

So there are so many ways you can save on grocery.

1. Avoid Impulsive Spending and Stick to the Grocery List

Make a list of items that you are going to a grocery store for. Do not deviate, and stick to it. It will save you a lot of money or you will end up with products you never wanted.

2. Generic vs. Branded Food

Often times, it's a good idea to go for Generics i.e. If you are a member of a chain, like Costco or if you shop at Walmart, they sell their own generic versions of every product i.e. Costco sells Kirkland brand much cheaper than other similar products and Walmart sells Great Value, Equate and a bunch of other generic brands.

3. Shop at Discount Stores & Discount Produce

This does not help you buy everything but certainly a lot of stuff on your grocery list every couple of months can be found on discount stores like Dollar Tree, Ross, Burlington's.

4. Look for Larger size more quantity items

For example, when you are buying stuff from a grocer, look for prices in the smallest units i.e. price per ounce, or price per gram, etc. You will be surprised that you can buy the same product in larger quantities at least 25% cheaper.

5. Coupons

If you have some spare time, hunt for some coupons that usually comes from manufacturers and you can find plenty of websites and mobile apps to give you too many coupons.

6. Sale

Do not miss an opportunity on sales. Stockpile when it's on sale.

7. Cash

Use cash to avoid bad spending habits. This way you will know how much is going out of your pocket. It also might help u save some on ur interest rate if you miss your payments.

Combines all these could save you as much as 35% on your grocery and spending habits.
