Its been a couple of days since my big adventure in the Peak District, and I'm still feeling the after effects, not surprising when I did over 1200 meters of elevation in that run, which is the amount I'd usually achieve over a 3 week period of 'normal' training!
I also did a long 8 mile walk the following day, so that probably hampered recovery too
After taking yesterday very easy, with just a small walk in the evening to get the legs moving (and to tick of my daily 10k steps target), it was time for a little recovery run today.
just a quick aside, I realize now how incredibly lucky I was on that adventurous 21 miles I ran/walked on Monday with regards to the weather. The preceding 3 days had been wall-to-wall torrential rain, and 2 days afterwards they've got freezing temperatures up on the hills along with snow... but there was a tiny window in the middle of this inclement weather for sunshine, milder temps and no rain, and that was the day I did my run. Couldn't have timed it better!!

Now back at home in Lincoln, we've got the freezing temperatures, but no snow as yet. And as it was going to be cold, and I knew I wasn't going to be working particularly hard as this was going to be a 'recovery run', I made sure I had enough clothes on to be warm enough. I still had shorts on, but I added a long sleeve t-shirt as an base layer, with a short sleeve t-shirt on top. I also had a hat and gloves, although the gloves did come off once I had begun to warm up.
It was meant to be an easy effort up along the bypass and back, and to be fair, after 3-4 minutes, I actually felt pretty relaxed and comfortable... and no noticeable stiffness. Its still a struggle to walk up and down stairs, but thats just the DOMS from the long effort from 2 days ago, and that will go in time.
With the run done, its time for a quick shower and a spot of lunch, and I can continue sorting through my kit, and tidying all the stuff from the holiday away (including catching up on ALL the ironing!). And then later on I'm off to visit Dad, so I can show him all the pics from my trip away (only fair really as he did contribute to it as part of my birthday present), and then afterwards will be an Indian takeaway.
Its become a yearly birthday tradition lol, as I've had one for the 3 previous birthdays.... I'll spend a few minutes pondering the various menu options before choosing the Chicken Jalfrezi and Vegetable Samosas that I have every time haha!
