It seems unthinkable, but when the Bikini was invented in 1946, for more than a decade it was banned and even considered too revealing and embarrassing as a garment. The 1960's catchphrase song "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" describes a poor young girl, who wore the outrageous swimsuit, hiding first in the towel then staying in the water indefinitely until she turned blue.
And to think that today there are countless variations of it: Stringkini, Monokini, Tankini, Skirtini, Whateverkini.... But regardless of the shape, it stands as a symbol and a tool to exhibit and apostrophize the sense of freedom of the modern woman.

Sembra impensabile, ma quando il Bikini è stato inventato nel 1946, per più di un decennio fu bandito e perfino considerato indumento troppo rivelatore e imbarazzante. La canzone tormentone del 1960 "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini" descrive un povera giovane ragazza che indossato l'oltraggioso costume da bagno, si nasconde prima nell'asciugamano poi resta in acqua ad oltranza fino a diventare blu.
