Grandma Geltrude, as she was called by everyone in the county, had actually already been a great grandmother for quite some time and well into her 90s. She had started riding horses when she was 2 years old and even the last moments of her life were spent riding. When the weather permitted she went out riding every day and the thoroughbred she preferred was quite tame and kept an elegant and comfortable gait. She returned from her last ride leaning lightly on the neck of the animal, as if she was resting, a sweet death doing what she had loved most in life.

Nonna Geltrude, come veniva chiamata da tutti nella contea, era in realtà già bis nonna da parecchio e ben oltre i 90 anni. Aveva iniziato a montare a cavallo a 2 anni e pure gli ultimi attimi di vita gli aveva spesi cavalcando. Quando il tempo lo permetteva usciva a cavallo tutti i giorni e il purosangue che preferiva era alquanto mansueto e teneva un andatura elegante e comoda. Tornò dalla sua ultima cavalcata appoggiata lievemente sul collo dell'animale, come se stesse riposando, un dolce morte facendo quello che più aveva amato in vita.
