Mostly Kitchen-free Easter Sunday

Having spent most of yesterday resetting my laptop and with a warmer evening, I also had an entire day with no real cooking. On Sunday, the Husband always does breakfast (I have often posted photos...) and there was plenty of pickled fish.

That became supper with a salad and warm sourdough rolls to mop up the sauce.

One either loves it or hates it. Pickled fish is traditional Easter fare in the Western Cape. On Good Fridays. I grew up in the Eastern Cape where it was a feature of Christmas fare.

I started making this dish about 20 years ago, and now make it twice a year. For us, and to sell at the market.

Yes, in case you are wondering, the fish really is pickled and keeps for up to three months. If you have house room. If it doesn't get eaten!

Until next time, be well

  • Twice a year Traci York hosts a challenge to bloggers to post daily for a month. I've participated (or tried) for three years I've known her via the blockchain. Twice I've succeeded. It's that time of the year again, and I'm giving it a go - on the Hive blockchain. Wordpress bloggers are also invited to participate.
