Where Everyone Knows Your Name

in The Pub15 hours ago (edited)

I’m a week or so behind my buddy @bozz in posting this, but better late than never.

Not too long ago there was a great Discord called Bro. There was a token involved, a token I’m sure most of you know, but the real appeal of the place (at least to me) was the people and the atmosphere. We had conversations ranging from serious philosophical or sociological debates all the way down to dumb meme battles and arguing whether Seinfeld or Friends was the better show. (I’m Team Seinfeld, for the record.) All of this while waxing nostalgically about the 80s and 90s like a bunch of old fogeys and going way overboard with the Monty Python references.

Conversation could be rough, and drama popped up from time to time when newcomers wandered in, but we usually avoided it and laughed about people who took themselves too seriously or got offended too easily. It was mostly men, but despite the name of the place, we had many women in the room and they joined in the great conversation with the rest of us.

In short, it was the perfect pub environment, which is what I often called it. Not to get too sentimental, but it really did have a bit of that Cheers feeling, hence the title of this post.

Unfortunately, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. I won’t recount how Bro went under; a quick Hive search will tell you everything you need to know. Suffice to say, Bro is no more.

Rather than stay sad about losing a great community, @bozz and I immediately set out to recreate it.

Enter The Pub.

We’re aiming for the same feel as the old place. Rules are simple: don’t be a dick. Otherwise, come in, have fun, and don’t take yourself too seriously — because no one else will.

See you there.

Just don't make any token or promise people anything...........

PS. never plan to give people any money or take money from people...also never promise any vote.

There was talk of a "PUB" token. It was actually created (not by us), but at this point neither bozz or I have any real intention of minting any. I have no knowledge or time and I think bozz is the same. There are far far too many shitcoins — especially on Hive Engine. We don't need to contribute to that. The only intention of the place is a nice community fostering good discussions, that's all.

NO Tokens PLEASE!

Nip that talk in the bud.

Whoever asking to create a token give me a list and I will DV them to oblivion.

Tell them that and the talk will die down! :)

haha no need, they are deferring to bozz and me about it, and yeah, I'm pretty sure none of us are doing anything. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable asking for money for a token, unless I was sure it was rock solid — which I wouldn't be, because I would have no idea what I was doing. Something best avoided.

Sounds good to me!

We can get the word around 😆

Just context - The token talk was in the heat of the moment when people were trying to figure out what parts of the bro project could be salvaged.

The majority landed on community could be salvaged but we don't need a token.

We were also trying to think of a way to help people who lost a lot of money from LGN/BRO. A fool's quest — you invest and you have to be willing to lose — but we are both fools sometimes and want to help too much — the stereotypical "bleeding hearts", if you will. But Marky pointed out why an airdrop would be unfair and I at least can't think of any other ways to help the people who lost their money, so the idea was mostly dropped.

This whole thing has been going on so long I totally forgot about the token discussion. 🤣

People really need to read this comment and internalize it.
