En el post anterior exploramos un poco la vida del famoso escapista inglés Jack Sheppard, quien luego de evadir cinco veces a la justicia, al fin fue alcanzado por ella. Las hazañas de este forajido le generaron una fama que trascendió las fronteras, obras de teatro, libros y canciones fueron basadas en su temeraria vida y en la manera en la que este, a pesar de ser condenado a la horca, logró escapar de la muerte, para convertirse en algo mucho más peligroso.
In the previous post we explored a little bit the life of the famous English escapist Jack Sheppard, who after evading justice five times, was finally caught by it. The exploits of this outlaw generated a fame that transcended borders, plays, books and songs were based on his dangerous way of living and the way in which he, despite being condemned to the gallows, managed to escape death, to become something much more dangerous.

☠️ ENTRE PIRATAS Y TIBURONES - BETWEEN PIRATES AND SHARKS 🦈
La fama de Shepard fue tan grande que se prohibió cualquier tipo de obra teatral, musical o literaria que mencionara su nombre, así que cuatro años después de la ejecución de este ladrón, el compositor inglés Jhon Gay tomaría la historia de este maleante y la convertiría en la famosa Ópera del mendigo, donde el protagonista era un famoso bandolero y asesino que llevaba por nombre Capitán MackHeath, que luego de un tiempo viajaría al caribe y se convertiría en pirata: Un hombre peligroso y famoso en el mar por haber escapado de sus adversarios en numerosas ocasiones.
Shepard's fame was so great that any kind of theatrical, musical or literary work that mentioned his name was forbidden, so four years after the execution of this thief, the English composer Jhon Gay would take the story of this crook and turn it into the famous Beggar's Opera, where the protagonist was a famous bandit and murderer named Captain MackHeath, who would later travel to the Caribbean and become a pirate: A dangerous man famous at sea for having escaped from his adversaries on numerous occasions.

Alemania fue el país donde el Capitán MackHeath pasaría a convertirse en un ladrón y asesino nocturno conocido como 🔪Mackie Messer🔪, en la ópera de los tres centavos. Aunque se consideraba que la obra estaba excelentemente realizada, a los principales encargados de la misma les parecía que el actor que debía encargarse de protagonizar al asesino sangriento y desalmado, no cumplía con el aspecto físico ni con la voz para realizar esta tarea, así que se optó por sustituir las participaciones musicales del asesino por un Moritat.

Germany was the country where Captain MackHeath would become a nighttime thief and murderer known as 🔪Mackie Messer🔪, in the three cent opera. Although it was considered that the play was excellently performed, the main characters in charge of the play felt that the actor who was to play the role of the bloody and heartless killer did not have the physical appearance or the voice to perform this task, so it was decided to substitute the musical participations of the killer with a Moritat.

📰 El moritat es un género de música medieval que se desarrolló en una época donde las noticias no se daban a través de periódicos, sino que hombres se encargaban de narrar los sucesos en las esquinas de las calles a través de piezas musicales que ellos mismos creaban 🎼🗣. En estos relatos era muy frecuente un poco de exageración y en la mayoría de las ocasiones los relatos terminaban con la muerte dramática de los maleantes y asesinos. Al final, en la ópera de los tres centavos, Mackie Messer no poseía una canción principal, sino que su historia era narrada por un tercero que era testigo de los crímenes que cometía. 👀
📰 The moritat is a genre of medieval music that developed at a time when news was not given through newspapers, but men were responsible for narrating the events on street corners through musical pieces that they themselves created 🎼🗣. In these stories it was very frequent a little bit of exaggeration and most of the times the stories ended with the dramatic death of the thugs and murderers. In the end, the opera of the three cents, Mackie Messer did not have a main song, but its story was narrated by a third person who witnessed the crimes he committed. 👀
En 1933 los Nazis ascienden al poder y toma la presidencia de Alemania Adolfo Hitler, por tal motivo las famosas partituras de la Ópera de los tres centavos, dejaron de usarse hasta 1950 cuando un admirador de esta historia arregla una de las canciones de esta ópera y al año siguiente se realiza una adaptación de todas las piezas para ser presentada en el teatro de Broadway. 🎭
In 1933 the Nazis ascend to power and Adolph Hitler takes the presidency of Germany, for that reason the famous scores of the Opera of the three cents, stopped being used until 1950 when an admirer of this history arranges one of the songs of this opera and the following year an adaptation of all the pieces is made to be presented in the theater of Broadway. 🎭
🥁 Ese mismo año Columbia Records contacta a el famoso trompetista y cantante de música jazz Louis Armstrong 🎷 para que utilizara aquella secuencia de acordes e historia para componer una canción de jazz y así nace la famosa pieza Mack The Knife que fue interpretada en los años consecutivos por grandes exponentes del jazz como Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra y aun el mismo Armstrong y hoy en día sigue siendo una fuente de inspiración para artistas contemporáneos como Michael Bublé. 🎺
🥁 That same year Columbia Records contacted the famous trumpeter and jazz singer Louis Armstrong 🎷 to use that sequence of chords and history to compose a jazz song and thus was born the famous piece Mack The Knife that was interpreted in consecutive years by great exponents of jazz like Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and even Armstrong himself and today is still a source of inspiration for contemporary artists like Michael Bublé. 🎺

Cuando tan solo tenía 11 años, Rubén Blades, escucha por primera vez la canción 🎷Mack The Knife🦈, que describía la historia de “un delincuente de barrio” y decide, con el pasar de los años, tomar elementos de esta pieza, para realizar la composición de una salsa en la cual se pudiera ver reflejada la realidad de los barrios de las comunidades de latino américa, el caribe y de Estados Unidos.
When he was only 11 years old, Rubén Blades, he heard for the first time the song 🎷Mack The Knife🦈, which described the story of "a neighborhood criminal" and he decided, over the years, to take elements from this piece, to make the composition of a salsa in which the reality of the neighborhoods in the Latin American, Caribbean and U.S. communities could be reflected.

PFFFF que nivel Ángel! No sabía que era un Moritat, gracias por hablar sobre ello en este artículo, de verdad se me hizo super interesante todo. No sabía que Pedro Navaja había sido inspirada por una pieza de Armstrong y menos tenía idea sobre el delincuente que inspiró todo.
