Los Mesoneros, banda Venezolana altamente reconocida por el público nacional, y de la cual hemos sido testigo de su crecimiento, nos trajo con Pangea, su último álbum, una demostración de lo bien que suenan y de su evolución a través de los años.
A los que le seguimos desde "Indeleble", nos hizo muy felices el reconocimiento que obtuvieron con este último álbum, nominado a mejor disco pop/rock en los Latin Grammys.
Aunque encontramos a unos nuevos Mesoneros, dispuestos a experimentar con diferentes sonidos, terminan sorprendiendonos para bien.
Hoy quiero hablar de su último álbum, y la relación entre canciones del mismo, basada en mi opinión. Creo que hay tres historias de desamor predominantes en sus 8 canciones.
Sin más que decir, comencemos.
Los Mesoneros, a Venezuelan band highly recognized by the national public, and whose growth we have witnessed, brought us with Pangea, their latest album, a demonstration of how well they sound and of their evolution through the years.
Those of us who have followed her since "Indeleble ", were very happy with the recognition they obtained with this last album, nominated for best pop/rock album in the Latin Grammys.
Although we found some new Mesoneros, willing to experiment with different sounds, they end up surprising us for good.
Today I want to talk about their latest album, and the relationship between songs on it, based on my opinion. I believe that there are three stories of heartbreak in their 8 songs.
Without more to say, let's start.
Pangea está compuesto por 8 canciones, que van en el siguiente orden:
- Prefiero No Saber
- Te Lo Advertí
- Dudo Que Lo Encuentres
- Pangea
- Dime Como Tú Quieras
- Lo Peor De Mí
- Exprópiese
- Últimas Palabras
Siendo estrenada de primera, "Te lo advertí" dándonos a conocer de plano, una canción bailable, pero con una letra que habla de un amor que se pierde, y podría ser una decisión apresurada.
La segunda revelada es "Dime como tú quieras", completamente adversa en letra, a la primera canción. Hasta ese momento no se distinguía ninguna relación. Pero cuando liberan el resto de canciones, podemos vislumbrar algunos huevos de pascua.
Pangea is composed of 8 songs, which go in the following order:
- Prefiero No Saber
- Te Lo Advertí
- Dudo Que Lo Encuentres
- Pangea
- Dime Como Tú Quieras
- Lo Peor De Mí
- Exprópiese
- Últimas Palabras
Being released for the first time, "Te lo advertí" (I warned you) is a danceable song, but with lyrics that speak of a love that is lost, and could be a rash decision.
The second revealed is "Dime como tú quieras", completely adverse in lyrics, to the first song. Until that moment, no relationship could be distinguished. But when they release the rest of the songs, we can glimpse some Easter eggs.
La primera relación se encuentra entre la canción del álbum "Prefiero no saber" y "Dime como tú quieras."
Esta última, como dice su nombre, es una propuesta para pasarla bien, con alguien, sin ningún compromiso. Así durante toda la canción, se reafirma una postura deliberada de quién no necesita un pacto de fidelidad, y pretende ser el reemplazo de alguien más, para llegar a un punto íntimo de la noche.
"no tienes por qué preocuparte
si me aprovechas hoy,
si quieres usarme para olvidarlo,
tranquila que me da igual"
Es uno de los párrafos donde vemos notoriamente lo anterior dicho.
Pasamos a "Prefiero No Saber" y nos topamos con una historia en la que predominan emociones negativas, como los celos, la vinculación con terceros y como dice su nombre, la preferencia a no saber más de lo que ya se sabe.
Esta podría ser la misma historia de "Dime como tu quieras" avanzada en el tiempo, y convertida en una relación tóxica. Cuando el coro de "Prefiero no saber" dice:
"Y si tú,
si me vas a hablar de él
prefiero no saber"
Estaría hablando del mismo tercero que se menciona en "Dime como tú quieras" y que es más evidente en los siguientes dos párrafos de ambas canciones.
Dime como tú quieras
"ya vi que te llegó un mensaje,
alguien tuvo un mal presentimiento
y si algo quieres replantearte,
como un rey te convenzo"
Prefiero no saber.
Mientras tu me conocías
era él quien te escribía
y si era interesante
no me importan los detalles
The first relationship is between the song from the album "Prefiero no saber" and "Dime como tú quieras".
The latter, as its name says, is a proposal to have a good time, with someone, without any commitment. Thus, throughout the song, a deliberate position is reaffirmed of who does not need a fidelity pact, and pretends to be the replacement of someone else, to reach an intimate point of the night.
"you don't have to worry
if you take advantage of me today,
if you want to use me to forget it,
I don't care".
It is one of the paragraphs where we see notoriously the above mentioned.
We move on to "Prefiero no saber" and we come across a story in which negative emotions predominate, such as jealousy, attachment to others and, as its name says, a preference for not knowing more than what is already known.
This could be the same story of "Dime como tú quieras" advanced in time, and turned into a toxic relationship. When the chorus of "Prefiero no saber" says
"What if you,
if you're going to tell me about him
I prefer not to know "
I would be talking about the same third one that is mentioned in "Tell me how you want" and that is more evident in the next two paragraphs of both songs.
Dime como tú quieras.
"I saw that you got a message,
someone had a bad feeling
and if you want to rethink something,
like a king I convince you"
Prefiero no saber.
"While you knew me
it was he who wrote you
and if it was interesting
I don't care about the details"
"Exprópiese" es el penúltimo tema del álbum Pangea, que habla sobre alguien resignado a sus sentimientos por una persona dominante, que está acostumbrada a ganar siempre en las relaciones. Una persona que sabe que puede conseguir lo que quiere, a costa de dañar a quién cree ciegamente en ella.
Esto lo podemos ver reflejado en las primeras estrofas:
"Dime cómo se siente el poder justo en este momento
de tener a quien quieras y hacerlo de tu propiedad,
si tú quieres tú puedes llevarte todo lo que tengo
lo peor es que si me lo pides voy a cooperar."
En lo personal, creo que este es el inicio de nuestra segunda historia. Una relación en la que alguien abusa de su poder, generando un estado de sumisión en su pareja.
Así pasamos a "Lo peor de mi", que a mi parecer, es la persona sumisa dirigiéndose nuevamente a su dominador, pero de modo más rebelde, y reprochando sus aptitudes para con él. También se cuestiona quién tiene la culpa de aquella situación tan incómoda, en la que él se convierte en otra persona, esclava de sus emociones cuando este aparece.
"dime ¿cómo haces? ¿cómo haces?
pa salirte con la tuya
se te hace la piel dura
cuando te perdonan muchas
Y si hablamos de culpa ¿quién tiene más?
si fui yo por dejar esto acumular
o es tu habilidad de poder sacar
lo peor de mí"
Son algunas de las estrofas en las que vislumbramos lo anterior.
Y "Últimas palabras" es la confrontación de la persona sumisa con su dominador, donde recupera su dignidad y pone las cartas sobre la mesa, objetando que debe decir sus últimas palabras, pues da fin a aquella relación en la que sufrió tanto. Además menciona textualmente:
"Estoy hablándote a ti
lo peor de mi"
Cuando canta:
"Se acabó, es hora de
deshacerme de esto de una vez
sin dejar más cabos sueltos"
"Pero hoy yo te juro no miento
que esta noche se muere contigo
el daño que has hecho"
Y como bonus, nos presentan "Dudo que lo encuentres" que habla sobre la incapacidad de sostener una relación emocionalmente estable, tras una ruptura dolorosa y que dejó secuelas. Esto podemos notarlo en ambos párrafos de las canciones:
Últimas palabras.
"Terminó, me cansé
voy a enterrar todo lo que no fue
y empezar con algo nuevo"
Dudo que encuentres.
"Se que puede sentirse personal
cuando asumes el puesto de alguien más
y salpica un daño que no te mereces"
Pues en "Dudo que lo encuentres" se ha empezado una nueva relación, pero sin tomar en cuenta, que la anterior no ha sido superada del todo.
"Exprópiese" is the penultimate track on the album Pangea, which talks about someone resigned to their feelings for a dominant person, who is used to always winning in relationships. A person who knows she can get what she wants, at the cost of harming those who blindly believe in her.
We can see this reflected in the first few verses:
Tell me what power feels like right now
to have whoever you want and make it your own,
if you want you can take everything I have
The worst thing is that if you ask me I will cooperate. "
Personally, I think this is the beginning of our second story. A relationship in which someone abuses his power, generating a state of submission in his partner.
Thus we move on to "Lo peor de mi", which in my opinion, is the submissive person addressing his dominator again, but in a more rebellious way, and reproaching his aptitudes towards him. It also questions who is to blame for that uncomfortable situation, in which he becomes another person, a slave to his emotions when he appears.
"tell me how do you do? how do you do?
to get your way
your skin gets hard
when you are forgiven many"
"And if we talk about guilt, who has more?
if it was me for letting this accumulate
or is it your ability to get
the worst of me"
These are some of the verses in which we glimpse the above.
And "Ultimas palabras" is the confrontation of the submissive person with his dominator, where he recovers his dignity and puts his cards on the table, objecting that he must say his last words, because he puts an end to that relationship in which he suffered so much. It also mentions textually:
"I am talking to you
the worst of me "
When he sings:
"It's over, it's time
get rid of this at once
without leaving any more loose ends "
"But today I swear I'm not lying
that tonight dies with you
the damage you've done"
And as a bonus, we are presented with "Dudo que lo encuentres" which talks about the inability to sustain an emotionally stable relationship, after a painful and consequential break-up. We can notice this in both paragraphs of the songs:
Últimas palabras.
"It's over, I'm tired
I will bury everything that was not
and start with something new "
Dudo que lo encuentres.
"I know it can feel personal
when you assume someone else's position
and splashes a damage you don't deserve "
Well, in "I doubt you'll find it" a new relationship has been started, but without taking into account that the previous one has not been completely overcome.
Por último, tenemos "Te lo advertí" y "Pangea". Canciones en las que no es tan clara la relación, pero que coinciden en esencia, por su significado, pues ambas revelan sentimientos de pérdida, sobre un amor que se añora, y pretende recuperar.
Con esto finalizo mi relación, respecto a las canciones del último álbum de Los Mesoneros, Pangea, esperando que les haya agradado y deseandoles un bonito día ¡nos leemos en la próxima!
Finally, we have "I warned you" and "Pangea". Songs in which the relationship is not so clear, but which coincide in essence, because of their meaning, as both reveal feelings of loss, about a love that is longed for, and seeks to recover.

Esta banda es muy buena, aunque no estoy de acuerdo en que sean altamente reconocidos por el público nacional, más bien creo que poca gente en Venezuela los conoce.
Pangea es una de mis canciones favoritas. Quizás yo la vea desde otro punto de vista porque se que Pangea fue un continente único que existió hace muchos años, y se separó hasta formar varios continentes debido a fuerzas externas de las placas, por eso la canción dice "Existen fuerzas que nos alejan, que nos acercan" y "Va más allá de nosotros".
También representa lo que muchos venezolanos sienten al separarse de personas que aman a océanos de distancia. Por eso el boleto de avión en el video.
Otra canción excelente es Luna, una de mis favoritas... Saludos!
