Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗

In this post I will be sharing with you my visit to the market to buy some food items for the house with specific attention to the purchase of tubers of yams. Yam is one of the food items that can save you a lot of thinking when it is available in the house. If you don't fry, you boil, if you don't boil, you pound, if you don't pound, you use as pottage/porridge, if you don't use as pottage/porridge, you use as yammaritta.

Some days back, I went to our local four-day market to restock a few things needed in the house such as grains, vegetables, seasonings, potatoes, yams and so on. This market is not a market that opens daily, it opens every four days and it offers affordable fresh food items. Most of the sellers are locals who bring their goods straight from the farm which makes the prices a bit friendly. The prices become a bit high when the goods are bought from the farmers and put up for sale by market men and women.

Over time I have mastered two techniques that makes me get the best deals in this market. The first is going to the market very early, as early as 7am when the sellers are offloading their vans or trucks. At this time buyers stand the highest chance of getting the freshest food items plus at a reasonable rate.
The second technique is just the opposite of the first. That is, going very late in the evening just before the market closes for the day. During closing hours many sellers would not want to take their goods back home so they are open to selling at much more affordable prices.

While I was walking through the market I spotted a set of finely displayed tubers of yam that caught my attention. As I moved closer I realised they were stacked up in a makeshift barn structure made from woods and zinc roofs.
The woman is an wholesaler who supplies to retailers who resells to the final consumers. But she is also open to selling to final consumers too. She has a sets of five tuber of ya which vary in size from big, medium and small. The price ranged from #4000 ($2.70) to #12000 ($8.15) depending on the size of the set.

After comparing different sets and weighing with my hand I finally opted for a medium set of give which I bought at #5,500 ($3.75). It was worth the price at the end of the day. I went home satisfied knowing that i was able to get a good deal.
Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
