There are those who wait for the weekend to rest but I think that in my case it is the opposite because I make the most of it to walk around here and there. And it is that after a whole week of work I feel like seeing my loved ones, going out with them and distracting ourselves for a while. This was the case this Sunday, when I dedicated my day to accompany my goddaughter to her first Tae-Kwon-Do tournament, a day that was full of emotions for all of us who were there ❣️.
Hay quienes esperan que llegue el fin de semana para descansar pero creo que en mi caso es todo lo contrario porque lo aprovecho al máximo para pasear por aquí y allá. Y es que después de toda una semana de trabajo me dan ganas de ver a mis seres queridos, salir con ellos y distraernos un rato. Este fue el caso de este domingo, cuando dediqué mi día a acompañar a mi ahijada a su primer torneo de Tae-Kwon-Do, una jornada que estuvo llena de emociones para todos los que estuvimos allí ❣️.
I like to accompany the children of my family in the things that are important to them. Lately I have been reading and reflecting a lot on the importance of adult support during the early years of childhood and I like to exercise it. When you're a growing little person you need people who believe in you, encourage you to be better, and build your self-confidence. This is what all the adults who were in this tournament looked like.
Me gusta acompañar a los niños de mi familia en las cosas que son importantes para ellos. Ultimamente estuve leyendo y reflexionando bastante sobre la importancia de el apoyo adulto durante los primeros años de la infancia y me gusta ejercerla. Cuando uno es una pequeña persona en crecimiento necesita personas que crean en ellos, que los alienten a ser mejores y que desarrollen su confianza en sí mismos. Así se veían todos los adultos que estaban en este torneo.
For many of these children it was their first official competition: a tournament organized between different schools that teach Tae Kwon Do in which dozens of children between the ages of 6 and 10 participated. It was even my goddaughter's first competition, who has been practicing this discipline for six months and has already obtained her belt with a yellow tip. At first she was very excited about the competition, but I think when she got there and she saw how many people she had she got pretty nervous.
Para muchos de estos niños era su primera competencia oficial: un torneo organizado entre distintas escuelas que enseñan Tae Kwon Do en la que participaron decenas de niños de entre 6 y 10 años. Incluso fue la primera competencia de mi ahijada, quien hace seis meses practica esta disciplina y ya obtuvo su cinturon con punta amarilla. Al principio ella estaba muy entusiasmada con la competencia, pero creo que cuando llegó y vio la cantidad de gente que había se puso bastante nerviosa.
But she wasn't the only one because plenty of kids felt that way. And there we adults were offering support at all times, with nice words of encouragement and motivation. When the individual competitions began, many of the children who did not manage to pass the rounds were sad, some even cried. There I thought about how difficult it must be to comfort a child who is just learning that in life sometimes you win and others you lose. loses, but either way you have to keep going. Fortunately, after a bit of encouragement from the instructors and parents, they pulled themselves together and went on with their activities.
Pero ella no era la única porque bastantes niños se sentían así. Y ahí estábamos nosotros los adultos ofreciendo contención en todo momento, con lindas palabras de aliento y motivación. Cuando empezaron las competencias individuales, muchos de los niños que no lograban superar las rondas se entristecían, algunos incluso lloraban- Ahí pensé en lo difícil que debe ser consolar a un niño que recién está aprendiendo que en la vida a veces se gana y otras se pierde, pero sea como sea hay que seguir. Por suerte, después de un poco de impulso por parte de los instructores y de los padres, ellos se recomponían y seguían adelante con sus actividades.
The tournament included a series of exhibitions where the children had to show the postures they learned, first individually and then in groups, and finally fight each other. I think my goddaughter looked more comfortable in the wrestling part and that's when she won her first competition. This made her remarkably happy and after all our applause and congratulations she became more confident in the rest of the activities. It was fun to see all those kids doing what they like and living their special moment, it was surely a day of great learning for them too.
El torneo incluyó una serie de exposiciones en donde los niños debían mostrar las posturas que aprendieron, primero indivudualmente y luego en grupo, y finalmente luchar entre ellos. Creo que mi ahijada se vió más cómoda en la parte de la lucha y fue allí cuando ganó su primera competencia. Esto la puso notablemente feliz y después de todos nuestros aplausos y felicitaciones se mostró más confiada en el resto de las actividades. Fue divertido ver a todos esos chicos haciendo lo que les gusta y viviendo su momento especial, seguro fue un día de mucho aprendizaje para ellos también.
What I liked about the organization was that everyone received at least one medal and you could see the excitement of the children no matter what number of places they had obtained. I believe that in the developing psychology that they have, this will be essential to continue moving forward, practicing and improving. And I liked being there being part of those adults who believe and support to form good people ❣️.
Lo que me gustó de la organización fue que todos recibieron al menos una medalla y podías ver la emoción de los niños sin importar que número de puesto habían obtenido. Creo que en la psicología en desarrollo que ellos tienen esto será fundamental para seguir adelante, practicando y superandose. Y me gustó estar ahí siendo parte de esos adultos que creen y apoyan a formar buenas personas ❣️.
In total we spent about 4 hours watching the entire tournament and when it ended, of course, we were all very hungry so we went to have lunch and to celebrate. I like being present in the lives of my goddaughters, it is very rewarding to see how they grow and learn to do great things. Now the next tournament will be in November, so from here to there you have time to continue practicing her moves and earn more medals along the way 😀.
En total estuvimos unas 4 horas viendo todo el torneo y cuando terminó por supuesto todas estábamos muy hambientas así que fuimos a almorzar y de paso a festejar. Me gusta estar presente en la vida de mis ahijadas, es muy gratificante ver cómo crecen y aprenden a hacer cosas geniales. Ahora el próximo torneo será en Noviembre, así que de aquí hasta allá tiene tiempo de seguir practicando sus movimientos y de paso, obtener más medallas 😀.

This is beautiful 🤩 I'm also a taekwondo coach i could remember my first day in competition it was a memorable day because I'm so afraid on the mat at first round but thank God for my coach back then that gave me the courage to won the second match..
Today i also coach kids and adults in taekwondo 🥋 and i make sure i bring out the best in them anytime they are ready for competition.
I love the spirit of your goddaughter because it's not easy atall , she should continue the good work going no pain no gain as we always say any time we are training🥰

That's great! It's good that you are a coach, these children looked for all their support in their teachers, you could see in their attitude that they were looking for their validation all the time... they are like their great references.

Los niños deben ser tratados como niños. De eso depende su futuro, tanto profesional como para forjar su proyecto de vida. La idea de entregar medallas a todos, los hizo sentirse más relajados y no vieron la actividad como una competencia. Mis felicitaciones a tu sobrina y que siga practicando.

I've always felt supported and loved growing up. I don't have to lift a finger at home; my parents wanted me to focus on my schooling. I've always had things before I ask for them. And all these and others I couldn't mention in detail helped me grow grounded, contented and confident. It was nice of you for pointing out that it's time to pay it forward to our kids these days, whether our own or others.
The psychology of childhood is the most important thing in life, feeling that you are a loved person makes you grow with confidence... it is the best.
