My Introduction to the Hive blockchain

in Hive Reachout21 hours ago

I have never really taken the time to sit down and write or introduce myself to anyone, providing detailed information about myself, not even to my close friends or any organisation. I'm glad I met some wonderful friends who introduced me to this unique Hive community, and therefore allowed me to really think deeply about who I am and what intrigues my spirit, soul, and body lol…diving into introducing myself properly.

My name is Awulonu Chidera Jude, but I am popularly known as Alex. During my secondary school days, some of my closest friends called me Infinity, a name I cherish because it reminds me that I am limitless and can accomplish anything with God’s strength. At home, my dad affectionately calls me by my native name, Chidera, which he personally gave me.

I am Nigerian, belonging to one of the three major tribes: Hausa, Yoruba, or Igbo. I am part of the Igbo tribe, and the name Chidera means "What God has written." I hail from Umunam Imerienwe, located in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.

I am part of a vibrant family with five children: three boys and two girls. I am the second son and, thus, the third child in the birth order. I entered this world on a sunny Saturday, September 10, 1994—a day my parents often recall with fondness.

Growing up, my siblings affectionately dubbed me the "middle man," a nickname reflecting my position in the lineup of births. As I navigated my childhood, I enjoyed certain perks being the second child. I had the advantage of learning from my older brother’s experiences, while also having more freedom since I was not expected to take on the same responsibilities he had faced.

However, this lack of responsibility began to weigh on me as I matured. Instead of feeling grateful for my relatively carefree upbringing, I started to perceive it as a lack of obligation. It became apparent that my carefree days were beginning to cloud my understanding of adulthood.

Through contemplation and life experiences, I ultimately recognized a crucial truth: each person must shoulder their own burdens. No one else would come to save me or take responsibility for my life decisions. This realization struck me profoundly, serving as a wake-up call that I am genuinely thankful I had early on. Had I ignored this lesson longer, it could have led to significant challenges and regrets throughout my life.

Educational background

I studied at Federal Polytechnic Nekede in Imo State, Nigeria, where I earned an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in the department of Microbiology/Biochemistry in 2019. I graduated with Upper Credit, although I had hoped to achieve a First Class. Nevertheless, I am grateful to God for my graduation.

During my service year in 2022—despite graduating in 2019—I faced financial challenges that prevented me from participating in activities to raise funds, which I will discuss later. Eventually, I applied for and was posted to Ikare Akoko in Ondo State, whose capital is Akure. This was my first time in a mixed tribal environment, and it was an unforgettable experience that changed my perspective on life and my surroundings.

During our three-week camping experience, I made new friends from various tribes and geographical locations, each with their unique cultures and religions. It was a life-changing experience, as I had the opportunity to showcase my talents in football and drumming while at the camp.

Job opportunities

Diving deep into the 6-foot and deeper sections of the swimming pool, I landed my first job as a swimming pool operator and lifeguard. This opportunity also allowed me to become a swimming instructor or coach, enabling me to earn both a salary and income from my students. It was truly enjoyable because I pursued this work with passion due to my love for swimming.

During my years of service, I was assigned to a secondary school where I initially took on a teaching role. At first, it was one of the most challenging jobs I had ever encountered. While my options weren't limited, I decided to give it a chance. The beginning was tough; I had always struggled with being outspoken and dealt with significant stage fright throughout my school years. However, over time, I began to enjoy teaching and realized that expressing myself and speaking in front of others wasn’t so daunting after all. This experience helped me build my confidence and encouraged me to learn more than I had during my own education. I had to study not just to acquire knowledge but also to effectively explain concepts to my students and answer their questions. Teaching such wonderful and brilliant kids allowed me to grow and develop alongside them.

Core skills:

Learning a skill was one of my goals when I left the school environment, but my limited resources made it challenging. However, thanks to the friends I made, I relocated to another state where I learned some beginner skills in email communication, data entry, and data analysis using Microsoft Excel. I also explored Forex trading skills, although I haven't practiced them often due to low income. I do have a demo account that I use to practice occasionally.

As time went by and my job search yielded no results, I decided to venture into fish farming. This opportunity was introduced to me by my friend and roommate, Eze, who also became like a brother to me. He connected me with his friend Abdul Qudus, who is a fish farmer and has become both my boss and friend. They both taught me a lot about fish farming and production.

I am currently in my first production cycle. Although the number of fish I've produced is relatively small according to my friends, I still see it as an achievement! I am in the learning process and hope to expand my knowledge and skills. Right now, I manage a few ponds and aspire to have more in the future.

Likes and dislikes

I developed a deep passion for a unique, small, round object known as a football. My childhood was filled with evenings spent kicking it around, often long after the sun had set, until my mother would call me in for the night. Sadly, I never had the chance to play at an international level or turn my love for the game into a career, but the joy and memories I gained were invaluable, and my enthusiasm for football has only intensified over the years.

As a dedicated supporter of Arsenal FC, my journey with the club began during my secondary school days. The excitement I felt as I cheered for the Gunners during matches is something that words can hardly capture. The vibrant atmosphere, the sense of community among fellow fans, and the thrill of each game have been integral to my life. My love for sports extended beyond football; I vividly recall my school years, where I embraced the challenge of learning basketball and volleyball. Competing in interschool tournaments became a highlight for me, where I proudly earned a gold medal in football and a silver medal in both basketball and volleyball.

Working at the swimming pool prompted me to start hitting the gym, driven by the desire to look fit and attractive in my role. To my surprise, I began to enjoy the workouts and the attention I received, which not only boosted my self-confidence but also led to an increase in my student enrollment. As I became more fit and appealing, I was able to connect with more students, enhancing my income along the way.

Writing has never been my strong suit, and I often struggled to express myself, even in school exams. However, thanks to the platform provided by Hive and its supportive community, I have found a space where I can freely blog, comment, and share my thoughts and experiences. This outlet has allowed me to enlighten others while also nurturing the growth of our community. Every post feels like a step toward building connections and sharing the love I have for sports and life.
