Freedive Alegria | Meeting the Guardians of Alegria

The Guardians of Alegria have been making names in the freediving community here in Cebu, Philippines. The said "guardians" are statues that were placed underwater alongside the corals. The owner of the Alegria Dive Resort did mentioned that their main goal is to create a "unique" ecosystem underwater while preserving the corals. Well, it was in fact a unique experience.

We did meet the said "guardians" - Poseidon, Medusa, and Buddha! Although there was another statue which seemed like a warrior, another was Mother Mary which we weren't able to find and the latest addition to their underwater must-see is this motorbike which was kind of dope.

There are pros and cons with our experience.

CONS

  1. Jellyfish Stings. I'm just not sure if it was just their season but there were a lot of jellyfishes during our dive. Those that are clear or transparent in color so you wouldn't notice whether you have already come in contact with them. But one of the staff did mention that jellyfishes were rare at their place but my experience says otherwise.

  2. Cost. The rooms at Alegria Dive Resort were just within the price range that I am comfortable paying. Also booking in Agoda has discounts and perks so it was good. The price of the food were also affordable. However, what I was not aware was the additional "freediving fee" of Php 650.00 and the environmental fee of Php 150 which I'm still conflicted whether it was really worth it or not.

  3. Size of Diving Site. Compared to the freediving area in Panagsama Moalboal which is endless - just drift dive along the reef and after 5 hours or more there is still more to see; however here in Alegria Dive Resort - the diving area was just relatively small - really small so there wasn't really much to see.

PROS

  1. Unique. It was a unique experience swimming with different statues underwater. It was more like a playground too with the swing underwater.

Would I recommend this place?

Thank you @ewkaw! We just do manage to try and look effortless but it does require a lot of effort if we want to have great shots underwater. Good thing, we have an amazing underwater videographer @sabanalchristian who can stay long for 2-3 mins and make sure to get the best angles. 😆

Manually curated by EwkaW from the @qurator Team. Keep up the good work!

What an experience. Glad theres no jellyfish haha. Ang sexy mo po.

@indayclara wow I was completely surprised. You showed us by capturing so many beautiful things under the water. It was very nice to see the condition of the water inside.

Thank you @sumaiya777!it was indeed a beautiful day. The corals and statues was a unique experience but I mostly prefer seeing turtles and fishes and hopefully soon whales and dolphins 😌
