Greetings!
If I am amazed at capsule hotels and floating houses there's a form of housing or structures that I find "cute" and "Lovable". Yes, you read it right, cute and lovable (at least for me). I find them cute because they do not have lots of designs and edges on their outside appearances just good old rounded body most of the time.
And yes, you guessed it right, I am talking about barrel houses and structures. They have a cute image for me because of the simplicity of their outside appearance. Imagine a very large barrel then you carved them to make way for your doors and windows, aren't they cute?
I don't know, but it actually makes me smile while I am looking at some of the barrel houses online like the one on the photo below and I love them.
As you can see on the collaged image below, with careful planning, a tiny space that the barrel house offers can fit some furniture. As for me, I am surprised that stairs even exist.
Actually, before I came to love barrel houses and structures I am already a fan of barrels themselves. I am captivated by their old looks especially those that are being used to age wine. If I remember it right most barrels that are used to age wine are made of oak trees. It was in a wine aging documentary that I came to love barrels because of their natural aged looks. Just take a look at the photo below, isn't it beautiful?
From then on, after watching the documentary whenever I see a barrel be it a barrel or a barrel structure it never failed me to admire them, kudos to the one who invented the barrel you made an avid fan out of me.
A Panoramic Barrel Sauna in the UK
As I realized it, barrels can also be used for some type of need other than living and housing. Just like in other parts of the world particularly in the UK a barrel sauna is up for sale for those who wanted a different experience while having a sauna at the comfort of their own backyard or properties. If you ask me this panoramic barrel sauna can also be converted into a house at will.

Just like I said, this panoramic barrel sauna can also be converted into a house, living room, or a rest house. Just look at its interior, just a couple of modifications or adding some amenities then it is ready to be used as a house or rest house.

A Camping Barrel in the Netherlands
We all know that the Dutch are innovative people and always a frontrunner in any facets of life, technology, and of course on innovation. Do you remember the article where I discussed their floating houses? If yes, then knowing that the Dutch are also a frontrunner on barrel structures is no surprise.
Take a look at the various photos of a camping barrel up for sale in Hoogeveen in the Netherlands it looks very simple, neat, and its design is minimal just a good old rounded body with almost no sharp edges like those of conventional house structures.
The interior of the barrel house is impressive. The wall's color is all-natural wood color (there's no denying that the natural color of the wood is one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful).
In the photo below adjacent beds can be seen and a wall-mounted hanging bed is also installed, at the center is a little drawer above it is a window. With the natural light color of the interior, only a little light is needed to achieve a very bright ambiance.
A comfort room also can be found inside the camping barrel just right at the doorstep which seemingly has a sliding door. Aside from the comfort room, a lavatory is also installed complete with a mirror and a drawer just below the lavatory.

Just at the doorstep, a table is available for dining combined with crate-styled chairs for sitting.

Just like I said earlier, just some modification and adding of amenities this camping barrel can be also converted into a full living house at will. If you ask me if I could I'll be glad to have a barrel-styled house.

A Barrel Dog House
Of course, if people are building barrel structures for human use barrels and barrel-styled structures can also be applicable to animals especially for our pets. Here's a lovely example of a dog house made from a literal wine barrel repurposed as a dog house.
Just take a look at the photo of a dog house below, isn't it cute? I admit the paw design made the design to the next level.
A Barrel Vacation House
Do you love to travel? Do you want to go to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower? Most of us would say yes. But after you toured Paris and saw the Eiffel Tower you would probably want to sleep or rest in a place excluding the vibe of city living.
You are very lucky because while I am researching for this article online I just found a website offering a barrel vacation house that is near Paris. Booking is through Airbnb as indicated on the website. Here are some of the photos of the barrel vacation house.
The barrel vacation house features a kitchen, a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. As can be seen in the photos, the ambiance inside is quite spacious and bright because of the light that is being reflected by the natural color of the wood used on the walls.

The Pickle Barrel House - A History
In 1926 Monarch Food Company contracted Pioneer Cooperage Company of Chicago which is a maker of small barrels at the time to build a life-sized replica of a barrel to be used as a house. After the completion, the structure was brought to Grand Marais in Michigan.
Monarch Food Company got the idea of building a life-sized barrel house from the "the Teenie Weenies". The Teenie Weenies is a cartoon series about two-inch-tall people created by William Donahey which became popular in 1923. It was so popular that William Donahey entered into an agreement with Monarch Food Company to use TEeenie Weenies in its line of products.
