Hello everyone, I am glad to write again in the Architecture and Design community.
Today, flipping through the gallery, I realized that I still have photos from my trip to Kyiv. That is why I can continue the story about our beautiful capital and my visit to it.

Сьогодні, гортаючи галерею, зрозуміла, що маю ще фото з поїздки до Києва. Саме тому я можу продовжити розповідь про нашу прекрасну столицю та мій візит до неї.
I'll start by saying that I lived then in an area that was popularly nicknamed "Kontraktova", because Kontraktova Ploshcha is nearby. This is the old district of Kyiv, located in Podil. Andriivskyi Uzvoz, which I talked about in the last post, is only a 2-minute walk away.
Розпочну з того, що жила я тоді в районі, який в народі прозвали "Контрактова", тому що поруч знаходиться Контрактова Площа. Це старий район Києва, що знаходиться на Подолі. До Андріївського Узвоза, про який я розповідала у минулому пості, всього 2 хвилини йти.
In general, I like this place because of the old buildings and the constant atmosphere of the holiday. Well, it doesn't happen that a large number of young people don't walk on Kontratkova Ploscha, street musicians don't sing songs, and teenagers don't sit on the summer terraces... And all this beauty is surrounded by buildings of the late 18th and 19th centuries.
You yourself see this beautiful Kyiv architecture.
Взгалі, це місце мені подобається через старі будівлі та постійну атмосферу свята. Ну не буває такого, щоб на Контратковій Площі не гуляла велика кількість молоді, вуличні музиканти не співали пісні, а на літніх терасах не засідали підлітки... І вся ця краса оточена будівлями кінця 18- 19 століття.
Ви й самі бачите цю прекрасну Київську архітектуру.
But, first of all, the Contract Ploscha is associated in all of them with the Wheel, which you could see in the first photo.
Та, в першу чергу Контрактова Площа асоціюється в усіх іх Колесом, яке ви могли бачити на першому фото.
Here it is. I think it fits perfectly into the overall picture of this place. And the lighting, which is turned on in the evening, does not create a dissonance between historicity and modernity. Everything is completely organic.
Every day, going to the subway, I saw the Wheel and the square itself in all its glory. The mood rose instantly.
Ось воно. Мені здається, воно ідеально вписується в загальну картину цього місця. А підсвітка, яка включається ввечері не створює динонанс між історичністю та сучасністю. Все цілком органічно.
Кожного дня, йдучи до метро, я бачила Колесо та саму площу в усій своїй красі. Настрій піднімався моментально.
When I come to the capital, I always go to my favorite clothing store. I usually buy things online, but if there is an opportunity to try on things of my favorite brand - why not?) The offline store of the Ukrainian brand Cher17 is something extraordinary. Just look for yourself:
Приїжджаючи до столиці, я завжди йду в свій улюблений магазин одягу. Зазвчичай я купляю речі онлайн, але якщо є можливість поміряти речі свого улюбленого бренду - чому б і ні?) Офлайн-магазин українського бренду Cher17 - це щось нейморвіне. Лишень самі погляньте:
I am in love with the design of this showroom💘 It is located in the basement, and above it is a historical architectural building (this can be seen from the characteristic pastel yellow brick)
Я закохана в дизайн цього шоурума💘 Сам він знаходиться у підвальному приміщенні, а зверху - історична архітектурна споруда (це ще видно по характерній пастельно-жовтій цеглі)
I don't know who was their designer, but he did his job 100%. Just look at how gently these beautiful flowers weave along the wall. The delicate pink-violet color looks very natural, as if they are dry flowers. And they look so beautiful against the background of this old brick😻
Не знаю, хто був їх дизайнером, але він виконав свою роботу на всі 100% Тільки погляньте як ніжно плетуться вздовж стіни ці прекрасні сучвіття. Тендітний рожево-фіалковий колір виглядає дуже природно, неначе це спражні квіти. А ще вони так гарно виглядають на фоні цієї старої цегли😻
Agree, you immediately pay attention to such a store when you walk down the street.

Погодьтесь, одразу звертаєш увагу на такий магазин, коли йдеш вулицею.
Я, до речі, вийшла з обновками, про це свідчить фірмовий пакет.
After that, I returned home through the center. I even walked through Khreschatyk. And took some photos.
Після цього додому я поверталася цетром. Пройшлася навіть Хрещатиком. І зробила декілька фото.
The architectural buildings of this district are mainly from the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century. But mainly the buildings of the turning point of the era prevail. I need to read more about it, because my knowledge about Khreshchatyk is quite sketchy. For some reason, I was never interested in this place in Kyiv.
Архітектурні споруди цього району переважно кінця 19 - початку 20 століття. Але в основному переважають будівлі рубіжа епохи. Треба почитати про це більше, адже мої знання доволі поверзневі стосовно Хрещатика. Чомусь ніколи не цікавилася цим місцем у Києві.
The Freedom Monument is visible from this angle. Now, in the 7th month of the war, you begin to realize the importance and value of this symbol in a different way.
З цього ракурсу видно Монумент Свободи. Зараз, на 7 місяці війни, починаєш по-іншому усвідомлювати важливість та цінність цього символу.
Our next "stop" is a favorite place of students from my university. And this is Fomin botanical garden.
Наступна наша "зупинка" - це улюблене місце студентів із мого універтету. І це Ботанічний сам імені Фоміна.
Do you see that round white spore? It's not the boat park itself - it's the subway! Yes, there is the entrance to the "Universityet" station. To be honest, I would never have thought that it was a subway.
This place was "favored" by students. Whenever you come here, there will always be students sitting here with coffee or beer. As far as I know, the boatyard now functions more like a park where you can sit and relax. There is even a small coffee shop here.
Бачите цю округлу спору білого кольору? Це не сам ботсад - це метро! Так, там знаходиться вхід до станції "Університет". Я, якщо чесно, ніколи б не подумала, що це метрополітен.
Це місце "облюбували" студенти. Коли б ви не зайшли сюди, тут завжди будуть сидіти студенти із кавою або ж пивом. На скільки я знаю, ботсад зараз більше функціонує як парк, де можна посидіти відпочити. Тут навіть невеличка кав'ярня є.
It's very cozy, isn't it?
Вона дуже затишна, чи не так?
One of the most expensive hotels in the capital - the Hilton - can be seen from here. A massive glass skyscraper - I never particularly liked it. Next to it is a building, approximately, from the second half of the 19th century. Maybe it's just my personal tastes, but historical architecture is always much more refined and thoughtful than modern architecture. The old one has its own soul, character, individuality...What do you think about it? I would be interested to hear your opinion.
Звідси видно одниз із найдорожчих готелей столиці - Hilton. Масивний стекляний хмарочос - він ніколи особливо мені не подобався. Поруч із ним якась будівля, орієнтовно, другої половини 19 століття. Можливо, це просто мої особисті смаки, але історична арзітектура завжди набагато вишуканіша та продумана, аніж новітня. У старому є своя душа, характер, індивідуальність...Що ви думаєте про це? Мені було б цікаво почути вашу думку.

Sorry to ask. The ongoing war must have caused unwanted devastation to some buildings, sites, and landmarks there. Are those affected areas far away from your place of residence and how safe are your people doing nowadays?
Thank you very much for your feedback and questions. In the capital, there are residential buildings, schools, hospitals, even a shopping center and infrastructure facilities destroyed by missiles. Moreover, both in the center and on the outskirts. I used to live in Darnytsia district, a cruise missile hit near my dorm. Also, from the side of Bucha and Irpin, the entrance to Kyiv presents a sad picture: completely destroyed buildings, gas stations and fallen trees. But all equipment and debris are dismantled very quickly. I haven't seen places destroyed by russian missiles in Kyiv anymore. And, to be honest, I don't want to see it, I've had enough of the horrors of war for these 7 months.
As for security, it is safe in Kyiv now, because we have a very cool air defense system. But when the "air alarm" sounds, everyone goes down to the shelter anyway, just in case. Knowing the meanness of the enemy, it is better to play it safe. And yes, the capital lives and will live)
I'm truly happy you are doing alright there @anastasialin. It's extremely difficult to control unpredictable situations of war and its consequences. Nevertheless, it's such a huge relief that everything there has improved for the better. No more unnecessary destruction to your city's remarkable architecture!
