Architecture Brew #20

in Architecture+Design3 years ago

Hello, @aplusd here!

Welcome to the Curation Compilation of Architecture+Design Community, your digital dose of Architecture and Design!

We are your dedicated community for publishing digital content about Architecture, Interior Design, Furniture Design, Urban Design, and Environmental Design.

This is our 20th edition where we have selected architecture and design posts for upvotes and curation trail this week. Special thanks to @OCD for the support.

Each week, we nominate the Top 3 features among the curated posts based on high-quality content defined by the following criteria: (1) originality, (2) timely and relevant, (3) authenticity, (4) clarity, (5) readability, (6) versatility (7) inspires action, captivates interest, and/or entertains and lastly, have conformed to our community rules and comprehensive guidelines.

We are proud and excited to present this week's highlights from April 8, 2021, to April 11, 2021:

"Neoclassical architecture is a revival or new interest in classical (Greek or Roman) architecture in the 18th and 19th centuries. It followed and was directly opposite the flamboyance of Rococo and Baroque periods.

In 1792 there was a competition that "would award $500 and a city lot to whoever produced "the most approved plan" for the U.S. Capitol. In 1793 construction for the capitol began on William Thornton's design which won for its "grandeur, simplicity and convenience."

"When I was young my first encounter with the words "escape capsule" or "escape pod" was on sci-fi movies situated in outer space. In the movies, an escape pod or escape capsule was usually portrayed as a capsule or craft that is big enough to carry one person and used to escape from a larger vessel or mothership during an emergency. In the movies, it is usually portrayed as a last resort of survival.

Today, capsule hotels or pod hotels are sprouting one by one and are largely look the same as the ones from the sci-fi movies (just like an escape pod or escape capsule), there's no doubt capsule hotel owners take inspiration straight from sci-fi movies. Capsule hotels are slowly gaining popularity and are showing potentials for mass adoption. Capsule hotels or pod hotels can be a good alternative to traditional hotels (good news to travelers on a tight budget)."

"Within this apparently idyllic perspective, we will see to our left, just stopping a few meters beyond a small and surprising waterfall, a peculiar rocky promontory, pierced with caves, in whose innumerable interstices the hand of man can be clearly seen.

Thank you to all of the authors who continuously support the A+D community.
As much as we spotted and wanted to highlight several interesting posts, we could only curate the content that falls within our preferred minimum standard of 500 words (English) and 1000 words for bilingual posts.
We also highly encourage everyone in our community to socially engage with others by commenting on posts and by replying to comments.

Great initiative and a very nice collection of architecture posts here!
Please correct me if I got it wrong: is that you do weekly curations and monthly contests?
And what does @aplusd stand for? I'm just asking so I can remember it better. :)

Hello @itchyfeetdonica, it’s a pleasure to see you here! That’s right, we have weekly compilations of outstanding posts about architecture and design and our community contests are monthly for the time being.

Aplusd is just a shortened word that means Architecture+Design and is our community’s moderator account. Hope this helps and thank you for your appreciation!

I see, thanks! :) I've always been interested in architecture and design, and do you know there used to be a similar project called @archisteem? It seems it's inactive now, I'm not very sure as I was only back to posting recently.

Thank you @aplusd, it is an honor to be chosen as one of the winners and being part of Architecture Brew.

Hello @sjarvie5, thank you for this wonderful feedback and it's a pleasure to have you here.

I think it is the third time that I am elected, I get very excited every time the notification arrives, thank you very much for taking me into account once again. No matter who you are or where you come from, a pat on the back makes anyone feel good :D

Hi @randomproject123, yes that is correct and you're most welcome. It feels good to hear that as well. Wishing you a great week ahead!

Beautiful selections! Is there a discord group for Architecture & Design?

If people are on peakd there is a way to have a chat just for the community. It is a great new feature that the team would need to set up. @storiesoferne @discoveringarni

I have seen that, but not sure it is compatible with mobile version. It's a pretty cool feature though

Hello @melbourneswest and Sara @sjarvie5 , unfortunately, we don't have a discord for the A+D Community. At the moment we could be reached by DM via @aplusdhive on Twitter.
Great idea, we will look more into the Peakd Chat

Yes, it would be great to have a discord channel or PeakD community chat hub for A+D as @discoveringarni and I are still working on this. Will update you as soon as this is ready @melbourneswest and @sjarvie5. Thank you for your interest!

Wonderful news! It's great for lifting engagement and having more people talk more often with each other.

Upto the group though I don't want to make recommendations, just asking if there was one.

That is some great Idea, Would love to have a community Discord group @storiesoferne & @discoveringarni Let us all know when that happens :D
