Design and Architecture of the San Martin de Tours Church in La Colonia Tovar

in Architecture+Design2 years ago
Declared a national historic monument in 1994, the San Martin de Tours Church in the town of La Colonia Tovar, is one of the main tourist attractions of this town of German culture and that has based the architecture and design of all its structures in the architecture of the villages of Schwarzuwald in southern Germany, and that govern the architectural design of houses, shops, hotels and other structures found in the town. A large church and not for its size but for the beauty of its design, large stained glass windows made by local artists, which to tell the truth I have not seen in another church, because their colors in contrast to the outside light make you see how beautiful they are.

To its left and with less time of construction is the genuine chapel, as it is called, a chapel where there is the possibility to worship the images and even light candles to them. And on the right side of the main church is the church office, structures with the characteristic design of the area and using the colors and materials found in all structures, wood floors, ceilings and even walls, and white, black, red and brown colors.

The uniformity in the colors of each one of the structures or constructions that we find in all the extension of the small town located at about 1800 MSNM, is something that covers even the banking institutions, commercial centers, hotels and restaurants, that have been coupled to the same one not to dissonate, and to conserve the beautiful tourist attractiveness present in the zone.

Wood, concrete and tiles form the basis of the buildings found in Colonia Tovar, large balconies with large pots full of flowers is a standard to follow in the buildings. It is common to find stained glass windows in buildings other than the church and community buildings, as the sunlight in this area gives them a dazzling beauty.

Returning to the structure and design of the church, I cannot overlook the stained glass windows in the façade doors and the details of the bell tower.

A large circular stained glass window in the facade and another even more beautiful of the same size in what would be the altar of the church, which can be seen even a few miles away, and is that the beauty of these windows, goes beyond the religious orientation that may have someone, is the detail in the manufacture of them.

As for the ceiling and the decorative details of the same, as you can see everything is wood, even the huge chandeliers that exist in the same, are made of wood with black steel, a very beautiful duo for this type of design. Other elements also used in the typical constructions of the area are the stones, and as you can see in the wall at the back of the church, where the altar is located, it is made of stone, which gives a very sober touch to it.

Uniformity in the design and colors of the buildings, as well as in the construction materials, is one of the main characteristics of this town with German roots in culture, design and architecture.

My jaw dropped upon seeing the images, they are so very beautiful.

That's is an amazing building there. The archi sure is a creative person to draw such amazing plan plus the producers of the glasses deserve more than accolades. Lovely images.

is an ensemble that achieves a majestic and perfect work, to say the least.

Indeed it is😌

Spectacular architecture, they are typical German houses and buildings, they have always fascinated me.

You don't mention it but Colonia Tovar is in Venezuela, No! I heard a long time ago that the inhabitants of that region should mix with the people of Venezuela, but they did the opposite, they isolated themselves in that region, in part it's fine, they are nationalist of your culture, greetings.

If they are in Venezuela, Aragua state specifically, and yes, they are so to speak isolated, and even many of its inhabitants retain even the use of the German language, it is literally a piece of Germany in Venezuela.

Undoubtedly in Venezuela we have a great variety of influences and architectural styles from other countries, and we could not miss the great influence of La Colonia Tovar, which stands out for its architecture.

Without a doubt, I agree with you, for example, this type of architecture as such is really beautiful, perfect for replicating it in a mountain.

Wow! the beautiful architecture, The stunning windows and style is just mesmerising. Can't take my eyes off the beautiful window glass. It's rarely found here.

Undoubtedly its stained glass windows are something hypnotizing I would say, although it does not compare what could be captured in images to being in the place seeing them.

The crazy unique and historic wall and glass design details are iconic. I am glad to go through your publications.
The pictures are wonderful and so is your content.
