Una visita a la Catedral de Málaga en Navidad/ A visit to Malaga Cathedral at Christmas time

Hola amigos de Hive.

Hello Hive friends.

One of the charms that millions of visitors come to see every year is the Christmas lights and the light and music shows.
It's great fun and beautiful

There are this kind of shows in various parts of the historic centre of the city and they have different times repeated for about half an hour or an hour so that you can see them all in the same visit. Without having to crowd all the visitors in the same part of the city.

This does not mean that there are not a lot of people in all of them due to the large number of pedestrians that are concentrated in the city at this time of year.

Bringing the charm of the architecture closer to the city we can see the three-dimensional light show that I would like to show you today, located in the beautiful Cathedral of Malaga.
It is located in the unfinished tower of the cathedral, the "manquita" as it is known by all the people of Malaga.

This type of show creates a direct approach of the little ones to the importance of architecture and in itself, to the great important facades of historic buildings.
Having a special concept for them.
It seems to me a beautiful initiative and way of seeing Christmas.

The cathedral of Malaga is situated very close to the coastal area of the historic centre, which is why from the port of the same, you can see all the most characteristic buildings of Malaga.

The cathedral, the castle, the beautiful and well preserved Alcazaba Nazarí among many others.

Making all the most important buildings of the city a point of interest, apart from the obvious reasons for Christmas, makes everything look much more cheerful and fun.

Fachada Principal/ Main facade.

Our beautiful Cathedral of the Incarnation is one of the most important and valuable pieces of the capital of Malaga and one of the most valuable renaissance jewels of Andalusia**.

The Cathedral of the Incarnation, as I mentioned before, is unfinished but many mayors have voted for its completion and the people of Malaga have always wanted to leave it as it is.

Its façades show its temperate and robust character. Arches and pillars make its style clear, although its age also shows its many influences.

Torre Sur/ Sour Tower.

Its dimensions are larger than those of other pieces of its age, which is why this colossus took longer to build than expected. Its construction began in 1528 on the site of the old mosque, as has happened in most of the important churches in Andalusia.
At the beginning of its construction, the chancel and the sacristy were built by Diego Vergara almost at the beginning of the 16th century
.

After this, it suffered a great hiatus of almost a century. Its construction was resumed, mainly due to fears that the works, which had already been inaugurated in 1588, would collapse.
The current façade of the cathedral was built at the beginning of the 17th century and in order to be able to cover the costs of the cathedral, the Catholic Monarchs imposed a charge on the berthing of all the ships that docked in the city's port.

On this visit I have had the opportunity to enter the cathedral, just to see the activities that take place inside for the Christmas festivities.

That is why I am looking forward to visiting it during the day and seeing inside. With a wealth of detail.

Continuing with some points of interest ...
The interior shows us grandeur in all its expressions. The columns are 40 metres high as it consists of three central naves of approximately 42 metres in height.

The finished north tower is about 92 metres high and the unfinished tower is the icon of our city bathed by the sea.

Detalle vista Fachada Norte y patio de los naranjos./ Detail of view of North façade and orange tree courtyard.

It has an outdoor courtyard that leads to the north nave of the Cathedral, called the courtyard of the orange trees. It gives off an idyllic scent of orange blossom in the spring and summer months.

It is through this entrance gate that the brotherhoods enter with their thrones and respective images during Holy Week to worship in their processional route.
An attraction worth seeing.
