"Plaza de Toros" A historical monument of Venezuela [Esp-Eng]

IMG_20220620_105618.jpg

Greetings dear friends, I hope you are very well both you and your families, and that you are having a very good Monday, today I want to talk about a place that I have been seeing since my childhood, well known in the city of Maracay, this is La Plaza de Toros Maestranza César Girón, which is a bullfighting arena, but let me tell you a little about when I knew it was.

Before I should clarify that I do not like bullfighting or anything related to it, because it seems to me a rather cruel sport, but that is my point of view. As a child every time I passed by this place I would stare at the statue outside this building which I later learned is called the Girondina, and was made by a Venezuelan bullfighter, after whom this plaza was also named Cesar Giron. But in my innocence as a child, I never imagined that it was one of those places where the famous bullfights took place, for me, it was just a huge and beautiful place.

I learned when I was older what it was, and I was very shocked, because I did not know that in my country this sport was practiced, and although it is a place where something that I personally do not like is practiced, I can not deny that it is a beautiful building and being so old, it has enough history with it, which is always something that impresses me, because it has been standing for a little over 80 years, and although it is clear that time, as well as the sun and rain were causing it to deteriorate, so it was remodeled some time ago and ended up being as you see it in the photos.

In this place I understand that bullfights still take place, but the truth is I am not sure, what I do know is that being such a large and spacious place it has been used many times for other events, in fact I think it is used more for that than for bullfights. And despite all the details it has, especially in the paint and the floor, this is still a beautiful place, with a style that is not normally seen here in my country.

I don't have pictures of the inside of the place, because it was closed to the public, but I do know that it is a huge place and inside it can fit more than 6 thousand people, so it is super big, its structure is very nice to look at, it was previously yellow, but it was painted in pastel pink and white, giving a delicate and beautiful aspect to this building.

Just like the civil hospital (it seems to me that it was made by the same architect, I heard it somewhere, but I don't remember it well) that I told you about in my previous post, it has that old style with super big and wide doors, plus windows with a very unique and beautiful shape, and figures on the walls that make me very curious how they were made, but that give it a nice touch.

It has a circular shape, just like the other bullrings, which according to me looks a little Roman style, but that gives a special touch to the whole area where this building is, which became many years ago in a historical monument of the country and still retains its essence.

I hope you liked my publication and know a little more of these old but beautiful buildings that can be found in Maracay, Aragua state, Venezuela. Thank you for reading my publication until the end, see you soon friends, we will read each other next time.

Apart from these irrational activities of bullfighting that remained in Venezuela for a long time, there are no doubt all these beautiful structures in various cities of Venezuela, for example in Valencia there is also an imposing and beautiful Plaza de Toro, although I think it is currently abandoned, but no doubt they are all jewels of architecture in Venezuela.

Yes, and it is not only the irrationality of the activity, but the fact of the acceptance that it had in its time, since we recognize that this activity is not really part of the culture.

But at least in Venezuela this is no longer seen and although the structures may not be beautiful, it is really a sad reminder that human evil is sometimes blind and insensitive.

Well, in those days it was all different and that was considered as heritage and tradition for coming from Spain, the main colony in Venezuela, but over time that thought evolved and we realized that these activities were not positive at all.

Hello dear friend @ jemima1996 good afternoon
What a beautiful construction, I like the fine details of the facade, the design of the arches is impressive
I appreciate that you share all this information and the beautiful shots
Have a happy start of the week

Thank you very much, yes the structure really is imposing and beautiful, however if history of sadness and cruelty, perhaps it is more engraved in its sand than in the details of the facade.

Greetings @jemima1996. Bullfighting is indeed a cruel sport. And as much as this horrible activity has been embedded into the dark history of the Plaza de Toros, I'm delighted to see that it has been immensely overshadowed by the spectacular beauty of its current heritage architecture. This is an opportunity to forget about the past and move forward with a brighter tomorrow - a more radiant building with a potential future to be admired regardless of its previous flaws. 😊

Yes, at least sometimes we have learned to plant trees where there was a fire, so to speak. But perhaps today the different laws protect the defenseless more than those who want to pretend to be blind.

It is undoubtedly a great architectural work, a beautiful place. In Venezuela there are several bullrings, I don't agree with that sport either, but they are great structures. This one is very beautiful, thanks for sharing it.

Yes they are, they stand out for their beauty, and if their past could be erased they would undoubtedly be beautiful works of art. But although sometimes history marks tragedies, time heals everything, and without a doubt, if they continue to be preserved, they will have more beauty than horror.

Historical monument of our country. I would have loved to see the inside of that building. It looks a little bit run down. I wonder how popular is bullfighting right now in Venezuela. It has a very nice structure, quite Moorish and Andalusian .

Thank you very much for your nice comment, yes indeed beauty tends to stand out.

Perhaps the soothing color is now a reminder that the cruelty I saw when I was standing is over. Thank you and have a nice evening.
