The Zachęta National Art Gallery and a magical exhibition of fabric paintings - Re-enhanting the World / Wystawa w Zachęcie. Przeczarowując świat

When one sunny day in May I was approaching the Zachęta National Art Gallery, I started to notice more and more interestingly dressed people discussing artistic topics. Many people wore clothes in bright, expressive colors. There was a building right next to it, from the outside looking classic, with numerous decorations, and inside it I planned to see the exhibition that was recently talked about in Warsaw.

Huge Ionic columns can be seen in front of the building, as well as the Latin motto "Artibus", which means "To the fine arts" (source: Wikipedia), and interesting bas-reliefs with ancient figures. The building looks very elegant and going inside I felt a bit like entering a palace.

On that day, clouds illuminated by the sun created a cool background for the upper part of the building 😉

It's even nicer inside. Snow-white walls, marble stairs. Numerous Ionic columns carved on the walls, as well as numerous arches. From the ceiling hung what looked like a modern sculpture made of several different-sized circles. The black balustrade and lamps in the hallway contrasted with the white surroundings.

There was a lot of light in the building, partly thanks to such a large window on the ceiling.

I also noticed the peculiar lamps. With round curtain rods. They looked a bit like antique street lamps.

Zwróciłam też uwagę na osobliwe lampy. Z okrągłymi karniszami. Wyglądały trochę jak zabytkowe uliczne latarnie.

You can also go into one of the side alleys and find a neon sign with the inscription "and Europe will be sunned". On the other side of the inscription there is a mirror. I've seen a lot of people taking photos of this sign.

Można też wejść w którąś z bocznych alejek i znaleźć tam taki neon z napisem "and Europe will be sunned"-"Europa będzie zszokowana".

Time for an artistic main course 😉 I was heading to an exhibition where paintings were made of fabric. It was a very popular exhibition. At the entrance there was a queue of people willing to see the works of Małgorzata Mirgi-Tas. There was one such painting in the lobby. The main theme was people. Immortalized in various situations. And also animals and symbols. Such a patchwork looked very effective.

In the main room with the fabric paintings, there was a sign that said that a maximum of 50 people could be in the room at a time. The room was huge and still filled with a lot of people. A nice idea was to put the pouf in the middle of the room. You could sit on them and watch your favorite fabrics. If you came to the exhibition with someone, you could sit on pouffes and discuss with them. About people shown on fabrics in an interesting way.

Some visitors spoke very loudly about the artworks. One such person said that she generally does not like fabrics, but these works delighted her...I think that it's very important to commune with different types of art, even those that are not entirely ours. Sometimes we can be pleasantly surprised when we like something that seems not our cup of tea.

I liked the most the works where you could see a group of people doing something together. For example, as in the picture below. A few people are sitting on a bench, drinking something from a cup, spending time together. Or even lower down, several men are collecting potatoes in sacks. In addition to people, on the fabrics you can also see animals - dogs, horses, birds and elements of nature - flowers, trees.

Albo jeszcze niżej kilku mężczyzn zbiera ziemniaki do worków. Oprócz ludzi na tkaninach widać też zwierzęta - psy, konie, ptaki oraz elementy przyrody - kwiaty, drzewa.

Greetings and blessings, I find this gallery and its internal design spectacular. In the same way, the lamps that look like old streetlights caught my attention, as well as the paintings in this gallery, I lost myself all day contemplating their works.

Hi @armasdiaze 😊 I was just as impressed by this gallery as you. I go there for various exhibitions from time to time and it's always a cool experience for me and I spend a lot of time there. Greetings, have a nice week 😊

The gallery has a great architectural design, I would spend many hours observing each area of this great work of architecture, I liked the design of the stairs it looks like a kind of grandstand, the details of the railings are really charming, the lamps are great and add elegance to the place.

Happy and blessed day!

Yes, thanks to the fact that the gallery is located in such a wonderful building, in addition to admiring the works of art, you can pay attention to the architecture of this place. I was delighted with it, I like coming there.

Thanks, have a nice weekend! 😊

Creative museums such as your featured art gallery are certainly stimulating environments for the senses. These immersive experiences of architecture, design, and artworks are soul-enriching! 👍😊

This is the first time I've heard about fabric paintings. During your actual observations there, do you have an idea what makes them special and basically different from other mediums of art @katiefreespirit?

Yes, such places are very soul-enriching 😊 It's worth treating yourself to such a feast for the senses from time to time. When it comes to fabric paintings. They are definitely different from traditional paintings because of the texture, the colors are distributed differently, there are no blurs. Thanks to the composition of various fragments of fabrics, patchwork works are created in the paintings. I really like patchworks, they are boho style. There are a lot of these differences. I think it is worth going to traditional exhibitions with painted paintings and exhibitions with fabric paintings, both are an interesting experience.

Awesome! Looks like fabric paintings and creative patchworks are excellent channels for adventurous artists searching for a distinctive medium to play with. Thank you for opening our eyes to this special artistic world! 😊
