Enjoy the Batak cultural village in the middle of a modern village

Living in modern times, of course, changes all habits which are gradually eroded away and accidentally the ancestral culture passed on to today's younger generation will disappear without a trace, but it turns out that there are still many tribes living in rural areas that still maintain the same culture. has existed without removing it in the slightest and of course this will be unique in itself because it is rare to find regional things that are still thick and deserve to be preserved and given a thumbs up, of course.

In Dairi Regency, one of the regencies located in North Sumatra Province, precisely in Paropo village, we found a village of residents. Not an ordinary village in general, because in this village we find many traditional houses that are still very traditional and are still preserved until now. And talking about traditional houses, I have shared traditional houses with you several times and now I will also share the same traditional houses, namely the traditional house of the Batak Tribe.

However, in my previous post I only showed one house which is a cultural example house even though the house is still inhabited, but in the village of residents in Paropo Village we will see a village of residents who are truly unique with all the unique traditional architecture strong and attached without being shifted by the increasingly fast currents of globalization, they still casually maintain the architecture of their traditional houses, even though by doing so they have to be included in the group of poor houses which are included in the category of underdeveloped houses by the local government.

Why is this traditional house said to be an abandoned house in this Paropo village? Because the residents in this village still follow the ancient architecture that was built by their parents decades ago without any changes, from some of the houses that I have seen this beautiful architecture must be stained with the condition of the house that has a lot of damage starting from the condition of the boards that starting to rot, the roof of the house is leaking a lot and the windows of the house are no longer feasible to be maintained.

However, from the village there are several houses that are still very good and have high artistic value with beautiful architectural buildings and ornaments. At first I thought the house was a tomb because it had luxurious properties among the surrounding buildings, but it turned out that this building was a house that was just built 2 years ago carrying traditional Batak customs which is pride for them and I also feel proud because it turns out that in this modern era there are still millennials who are still willing to build this traditional house.

These traditional house ornaments are not many and not too flashy, but this actually makes this house feel luxurious, not only that because these houses are built in the middle of residents' houses which already have a lot of modern architecture, these traditional houses are actually an attraction themselves for tourists. By still maintaining the Batak customs in this traditional house, they have succeeded in creating a new tourist attraction and the traditional house is not just a display, the houses in this village are truly a warm place to live for their family.

In terms of costs, it turns out that to make a perfect traditional house with complete ornaments requires more costs compared to the modern houses that I found, because this traditional architecture is really very complicated, every carving has a meaning that if it's just a little wrong then we will create the impression of not respecting the culture and even tend to be an insult. Then the wood material that is made must also be strong so that the life of the house is also getting longer and of course not being eaten by termites.

And that makes me also afraid of giving wrong information about the architecture of this traditional house, so you just have to enjoy the pictures that I share. Greetings from us Tomi and Maya from the city of Binjai, Indonesia and don't forget to keep following our posts.

let's heal to paropo. definitely exceeded expectations. Thank you for your coment @aswita

The Building is standing on an iron, which means the building will be a light load, imposed load won't be much and dead load. Because of the strength of the iron

Hello @maytom. Fantastic! Without a doubt, those distinctive roofing profiles of the Batak cultural village are the core attractions of the location! If I was entering that site as a new visitor, those architectural features would be the first details that would definitely grab my curious attention! 😊

Are those roofing designs only exclusive to the Batak tribe? Are there other Indonesian ethnic groups that implement similar characteristics?

This roof architecture is only specific to the Batak culture. Every ethnic group in Indonesia has its own characteristics if you look at the architecture of the building. Thank you for your comment @storiesoferne
