Architectural Mandalas - Squares

Here are three more architectural mandalas based of images I've taken of building in Chicago.

This group of mandala edits turned out quite square in nature with intricate patterns from the buildings forming nice linear textures. The colors also overlapped really nicely to depart quite a bit from the original photos.

The first photo is from the building I used to work in. They feature this multistory led strand light sculpture in the middle of the central lobby. As you go under it and view it from different floors it takes on quite a bit of depth and brightens up an otherwise utilitarian square building interior.

Here is what the edit turned into. It kind of reminds me of a some kind of computer chip that bounces around electrons crunch binary code faster for processing. Like one of those quantum chips that can read an electron in two place at once and decide that it is both a 0 and a 1 at the same time to complete the code faster.

I would imagine this chip is now trying to map the rest of the so called "junk" dna in the human genome. Perhaps it will discover we are all predetermined biological machines with no free will of our own and everyone has a predestined future that melds seamlessly within its environment.

This shot was taken while I was waiting for the water taxi on the Chicago river in the cold of winter. Fortunately the river hadn't frozen up yet so the taxi was still active. The building with the steam coming out of it is the Chicago Opera House and it is a very old classic building that I had a brief stint working in a while ago. I would imagine the steam is coming from an old boiler room in the basement somewhere that is still run on coal. That building is seriously old fashioned and a bit run down inside, at least the office space portion of it.

The edit turned out to become a spiraling array of buildings clustering overhead. In the center a huge chrome UFO is descending to the middle of the city to determine why on earth the humans built such structures. This is when they were hit with a shrill shrieking frequency from the opera house. Naturally this caused their space ship to shatter into a zillion pieces.

Right before the ship exploded it caused the sky to turn orange and all the office drones briefly thought it was the end of the world. Fortunately it was more of an implosion rather than an explosion and the office drones only took a brief moment away from their work to see the chrome dust falling into the river. It didn't even cause them to miss their fast food lunch break.

This next building is a modern new building that shines like a mirror from a distance. I usually buy breakfast from here before heading into the office and I always like looking up at the reflections and the bright red in this little nook.

This one turned into quite the star pattern. It resembles a sunrise, flower and diamond all at once. Maybe as I was editing this I was remembering breakfast and the morning and the sparkling water I ordered with it lol.

Now it has turned into a weed store window sign. Buy your kratom, cbd and delta 8 here guys! Now that weed is legal here the store signage has gotten a bit out of control here lol.

That's all for now, thanks for looking at my mandala experiments.

Hello dear friend @sketch.and.jam good morning
You are very talented in creating these mandalas, it is incredible that their bases are images of existing buildings. Excellent work, very beautiful what you have done
have a beautiful day

Thanks :-) its fun to see what a snapshot can turn into then try and write something about the abstract composition.

Yay! 🤗

I can't help but think of the film Inception with everything shifting and bending.

That's a good idea, I'll have to look for some staircases to take a photo of to try and get something like that.

Great mandalas post 👍 I always try to imagine the original photo looking at the finished mandala. These are quite unique only the UFO mandala has any hint of the original buidings. I'm never sure if I like the ones that still show some of the original photos or the ones that become something entirely new 🤔 both are fun

I never quite know what they'll turn into once I start manipulating the original photo. I just sort of let them turn into whatever they want.

Beautiful Mandalas!

Thanks, I'm finally finding a use for all my random building photos.
