Great post i was never been in Dimitrivgrad , but it looks pretty interesting

It always seems that the soviet-era buildings started crumbling the instant they were built. That little petrol station is cute

Yes, it is the regime itself. Also, in many places, the workmanship was poor, because of corruption, so things did fall apart very quickly. Perhaps your country was spared the worst of this and yes, every new regime seems to want to make itself new, instead of build on the past. Forgive my cynicism, but well: new avenues for corruption

Experiencing old buildings and abandoned built environments is definitely like traveling back in time. Dimitrovgrad may not be a fully operational city anymore, but its architectural landscape is clear evidence of how a powerful idea can stick for so many years but. eventually met its fate. What emotions were you feeling while roaming the streets of this historic landmark @soulsdetour?

Oh, I see. It's definitely such a pity to build cities like this one only for it to disappear from the face of the Earth later on. If I was in your shoes, I'd also feel the same sadness you felt plus the strange eeriness in the air of standing in front of a once-thriving metropolis. Thank you for your beautiful post!

As a resident of a former Eastern Bloc country, I can feel this atmosphere. I am also not a supporter of the communist era, and I do not miss it, but I can appreciate the achievements of each time. For example, I like socialist realist architecture; I love walking around my neighborhood built in the 40-50s.
